I took my daughter to a Kindermusik class called Sign & Sing. It was great! You can find more info at The Korner Kottage website. Good Luck!
Hi Mommies,
I am interested in learning more about baby sign classes. For example, where are there some available, what times, costs, etc. I know that some mom's have been inquiring lately, so I just wanted to know what they are finding. Thanks so much!

Hi A.,
I self-taught both of my boys sign language. It was really easy. There is a website that has a person demonstrating each sign. Here is the link... http://commtechlab.msu.edu/sites/aslweb/browser.htm you just click on the letter of the word you want to learn and browse through to find it.
I also found that when my first son got a little older he would make up his own signs. My husband and I understood him and we kind of had our own language. It really helped him to not get frustrated when he couldn't speak what his needs were. Good luck and have fun!
Hi,
I just signed my 10 month old up for a baby sign class at Gymboree in Lewisville (in the same center as Babies R Us by Vista Ridge) and it is a 6 week class for $125 (includes materials) and starts 2/20. We also bought the baby sign book that babies r us has & I have started using several.
Hopefully the class makes it easier to teach the signs-I keep forgetting to use them!
I taught my daughter baby sign. It was awesome. I bought a book and video off the internet. It was the greatest thing I ever did. I started when she was 3 months old, and by the time she was 5 months, she could sign Milk. She just kept learning more and more, she eventually learned 21 signs before she was 1. We slacked off as she got older, but she still knows several signs. It is a great tool!!!!!!
Hi, A.! If you'd rather go a different route than classes (some of which are silly expensive for what you get), look for the "Sign with your baby" kit on Amazon. I think it was like $50 and it included a book, quick reference chart and dvd. The key to signing seems to be consistency, so we've had decent enough results just from the kit and doing it at home. My 13-month-old signs a couple things regularly -- and quite frankly would do more if I'd keep up the consistency and teach her more signs.
Hope this helps!
I took a class at Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas, but I think the Plano location also offers them. I found that I only learned one thing that I didn't get from reading a book -- the part about holding your child's hands to show them how to do the sign after you have done it several times. My daughter never liked me holding her hands to do the sign, so we have just relied on her doing them when she is ready. I got a book called Baby Signs and rented some Signing Times videos from the library. We haven't been teaching her lots of signs, but she knows a dozen or so that we use regularly. The main thing is to not give up if it doesn't happen right away. Feel free to contact me if you have any question.
I have found several classes offered by the parks and recreation services here in Plano, you may check out the ones in your area. Also, some mother's day out programs use and teach sign language...mine does..it's part of the curriculum...you have to ask about it though. I bought a kit that includes a DVD a short book and a quick reference guide that can be put up on your wall, it is called "Sign with your baby" by Joseph Garcia. We have just started using sign language here in the house, but my baby has made the sign for milk a time or two already. Hope this is somewhat helpful.
Hi!
Baby sign is awesome. I have used it with both my kids and it really helped a lot. Presbyterian Hospital of Plano offers it often. I would check their website www.thr.org Once you get on this website go to the Presbyterian link at the top. One on the Presby page go to register for a class and you should be able to see what is offered, when, and the price. Let me know if you need more help. W.
Hi A.,
We did a Sign & Sing class last summer with our local Kindermusik program in Dallas. It was just ok. I think that area hospitals might offer sign classes as well. However, we did great with just a few resource books and DVDs. I recommend Sign with Your Baby by Dr. Joseph Garcia (book/DVD package avail) and also Baby Sign Language Basics by Monta Z. Briant. Your little one is at the perfect age to begin teaching 2-3 signs. Be prepared not to see results until they are 11/12 months though. I have a 16-month old who isn't talking much yet but can sign 12-15 words.
Best of luck to you!

The City of Plano Parks and Recreation Dept. offers a class. I took a baby sign language class from their program - although mine wasn't this thorough -- mine was only 2 Saturdays for one hour each. The Presbyterian Hospital System (including the Plano, Dallas, & Allen facilities) offers Baby Sign Language. It is a one time class in the evening that teaches you everything you need to know to "Baby Sign" with your child. I used it with my oldest (just turned two in Dec) & am beginning with my youngest (7 months). Hope this helps.
