Wewater Softner Problems Please Help

When I first moved to a tiny town, no one warned me about the water.
I found out the hard way.
I put in a brand new white terry bathrobe and it came out looking like I'd drug it through every mud puddle within a 300 mile radius.
It was ruined and I was so upset!
Iron out was the only thing I found that worked halfway well.
Eventually, public works replaced the old pipes and the problem was solved, thank goodness.
My in-laws had a water softening system and never had that problem at all, but they had city water, so I'm wondering if the water softener is really the culprit.

I hope you get some great advice though, because I know how annoying it can be!

It sounds like your softner is not regenerating properly. Most softners should remove the rust even if there is quite a bit of it. You should also have a smaller filter in your system that requires a small polywound filter. If you haven't changed this filter you will need to do that about every 3 months at the least. Call the manufacturer of the softner and have them test the backwash cycle. They will make recommendations from there.

i lived with a "dirty" well for 11 years...we had a special filter put on the system and had to change this paper towel roll looking thing every 4-6 weeks. it cleared the water up and when the pressure got low or the water got muddy i knew it was time. good luck!

You need to have your well water tested, but I'm not sure how you would go about getting it done. We bought a water softener system when we did an addition to our house and we had it done at that time and they were able to design the correct system for us and we never had problems with our water again. It wasn't as severe as yours, but we had a lot of corrosion and off-color whites as well.

You might try talking with your neighbors to see how their water is. Basically it's pretty much all coming from the same place, you know? Google labs that test well water and once you have your results you can google and figure out where to go from there.

Our well water was like that and we had a water solutions company come in and install a rather elaborate system. It turned out that we had tannins in the water and required a special filtering system. It was expensive, but our whites are white and the water is clear again!

My parents and a friend of mine that both use well water have a multi-tank system that is basically their own filtration system in their house for their well water. :-/ If it wasn't like this when you moved in and it's like this now then I would have someone come out and check out your water softner. :-/ best of luck!
When I first moved I had a water company call and ask to test water I declined. You can look up water softners online, many companies will come out and test water and make suggestions for free. Shop around!
