Weird Al

Has anyone seen Weird Al in concert? Is he appropriate for an 11 year old boy? He's going to be at the State Fair next week and my 11 year old and 14 year old boys want to see him. They do watch his videos on You Tube, and I haven't seen anything too bad yet.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone! I was planning to have my husband take them because I don't usually stay up that late (I get up early with an old dog every morning), but maybe I will join them!

I loved Weird AL when I was 11 and 14! That's when he first made his name. I haven't heard anything about him in years, but I can only imagine he would still be funny and still really appeal to that age group!

I LOVE Weird Al, even though I don't hear much about him these days. My boys were really into him when they were your boys's age, and some of his songs are hilarious.

He seems really nice in person, from what I've seen in tv interviews, and I've read that his concerts are spectacular events. I wish my boys had been able to see a Weird Al concert when they were your boys' age.

Listen to "Albuquerque," my favorite Weird Al song - it's so funny! (Edit: Ohmigod I just looked it up on YouTube and heard the word "hermaphrodite" in the song "Albuquerque" -- yikes~! -- a sexual reference, oh no!!! my virgin ears!!)

By all means let them go! And you should go too. (Also, you don't usually have to worry about things they show at a state fair.)

Per the comment below - no, there are not a lot of sex and drug references, and I'm sure your boys have heard about sex and drugs by now, anyway. A lot of his songs are about food.

Everything I know about him says that he is clean, just ironic. If you are okay with what you have seen on YouTube, and they are having him at the fair, I would think you would be fine. I haven't seen him in concert, but he went to my Alma Mater, so I have seen quite a bit on him.

He is pretty clean (no rel swearing or explicit content), but he does have some sex innuendos and such. The State Fair is a family oriented place though, so entertainers are usually hired to keep it clean.
