Weight Watchers for Those with Bodies That Resist Weight Loss....

I've been on South beach diet and lost about 25 lbs. Last few months I stopped following the diet, gained about 10 lbs back.
SBD works, if you stick to it, but it seems that you do gain it back if you stop the diet. I'm looking into Weight Watchers now, it seems a little easier to follow since you can eat everything as long as you stay within your points.
I'm one of those people that do not loose weight very easy. I've tried a lot of stuff and the weight just doesn't want to come off.
Last spring, I tried counting calories and eating only what's allowed for my body/weight, worked out 5 days a week for 12 weeks straight and did not loose a pound. I have heard that a lot of people have been successful with Weight Watchers and was wondering if it worked for some of you..

What can I do next?

It totally works. I lost 83 lbs. before I got pregnant with my daughter, had her lost the baby weight and was able to maintain for over a year. The fact that I was able to maintain without gaining is a miracle for me. I too have trouble loosing, but I found for me I have my own pattern and not to get discouraged. Now I still have about 40 or 50 more to go (whatever gets me to a size 12 first), but I also did not try to loose the past year until recently, which I lost 8 pounds this month. South Beach actually made me gain weight, go figure, that was my motivator to get back to weight watchers. I also find it more easy on the grocery budget as well. Good luck.

Before you spend money on WW, check out sparkpeople.com. You track food just like WW but it's free and it goes by calories and such. ASame idea as WW. It's free and helped me loose 15 pounds in the first month just be being conciese about what I put into my body.

Like you, I had a very difficult time loosing weight. After my 4 year old son told me I was fat, I decided to do something about it. I joined WW in April 2006 and by January 2007 had lost 50 pounds and reached my goal weight.

I feel great and I never feel deprived. I don't think of it as a diet and I don't ever say "I can't eat that" because that just makes me want things more. I eat everything I want, but in moderation. I stick to the plan the majority of time and all meals I cook are ww friendly, but you wouldn't be able to tell. I rarely buy any ww products when doing shopping as they are far too expensive.

It helps too if you have a good support system. I made some good friends at the meetings and it's nice to be able to share ideas.

Good luck!

Weight Watchers is definitely the way to go, even if it is just to start you on a healthier way of eating. I did the diet a few years ago and lost 20 lbs. Then I just kept eating healthily, lots of vegetables and salads, lean meats, very little desserts (I've almost given up ice cream except for very occasionally), and very little potatoes, rice or bread. You don't have to give up anything at all if you don't want to, as long as you don't binge on anything in particular. I still eat chocolate pretty regularly.

I've tried other diets, and like your experience with SBD, the moment you stop the diet, you start gaining weight again. This is because we fall back to bad habits. The advantage of WW is that they teach you how to eat well and it sticks with you.

If you don't want to attend meetings and such, you can sign up for the diet via e-mail. OH! And they do have some pretty tasty snacks.

Good luck!

I have done WW twice. Once 11 years ago and lost 17lbs and successfully kept it off. And just a few months back and lost 30lbs. I FIRMLY and whole-heartedly belive that WW has one if not the best program out there. It teaches you portion control, you can adapt it easily with your family, it's easy to follow, encourages exercise and most importantly helps you change your habits. I have been off of it for about 2 months now and have stayed within my weight or at most gained 1lb or even lost 1lb. A friend of mine tried sparkspeople and then switched to WW - she felt points were easier. Good luck! And p.s. - I have a hard time losing weight typically.

I use to be on WW and I loved it. The problem was though, I did not follow it like I needed to. My cousin lost almost 200 lbs on it and my sister lost about 100 lbs. I am wanting to start it again. I was trying to do it on my own without the classes, but I really need those. Where do you live? Maybe we could go together. It is nice to have someone to do it with. I would of lost my weight if I had done what I was suppose to do.

I have done weight watchers when I had my daughter I lost the 30 pounds. I am now on it again. The plan is easy enough if you have the time to measure that i the key. You also have to have time towrite down what you eat. I love it and it really works all my family members follow it.

I have had a hard time losing weight, even when I was exercising. I started Jenny Craig in April and have lost 25lbs without increasing my exercising. I am convinced it works for 2 reasons, portion control and eating 6x per day. I am never hungry because every 2-3 hours I am eating. The concept is your main meals are about 300-400 calories each, then each snack is about 100 calories. One snack should be fruit or veggie, another should be dairy and the last can be chocolate (Jenny's cheesecake is my fav). Each meal also includes a veggie or fruit serving as well. The 2nd dairy serving I typically have is with breakfast.
I agree with the other poster that it is expensive. But for me it gave me the confidence that I can lose weight. I have 5 more pounds to go and am introducing more exercise because I am concerned that I will gain it all back. But I hope with the help of my wonderful counselor I can do it. She always gives me advice about how to fit fun into my diet. I can even have a beer!!! Just have to skip my snack.
I have to say that I have strayed from the diet, like last week was my birthday and we went out for dinner. But when I eat more than what a Jenny portion is, I feel awful afterward. All bloated and constipated. That has been my preimary deterrent to overeating. We will have to see how Thanksgiving goes :)

WW is very good and successful. You can also follow it online. first and foremost make sure that your thyroid function is normal..Done through a simple blood test.
I have done WW off and on for years and if you are truly disciplined and keep track of the foods you eat and portion control it works!!! The meetings are great support and you weigh in once a week. The other meal plans such as Jenny Craig and Nutrasysem while successful are unrealistic because they are expensive and what do you do when you eat out. You have to buy premade foods for it to continually work. Not realistic. good luck.

I haven't tried either. My mom lost some weight on WW twice but both times gave up and gained it back. My older sister also did WW but the same thing happened. My sister has now been on Jenny Craigs and has lost about 60 pounds, she looks great and is finally starting to slow down losing weight and looks great. She said the meals are expensive and after being on it for a while, she learned that she can substitute just making oatmeal packets for breakfast and a lean quisine for lunch and a jenny craig dinner for dinner. I think like many people if you have to count points, measure, cook and buy diet food it's hard to stick with unless it's something that all you have to do is buy your meals and eat them and nothing more, unless you add low carb veggies. So, my recommendation is to check into Jenny Craig.

I hate the word 'diet'. For many people it implies that you can go on it for a few weeks, lose the weight, and have the problem solved.

As you've learned, the SBDiet is good...when you're on it. As soon as you go off of it, all the benefits are gone too.

Lifelong weight management means making good nutritional decisions for the rest of your life. Several people have found great success with the Weight Watchers program because it involved nutritional education, eating real food, and adopting a nutritional program that you will follow for the rest of your life...not because it was a gimmicky program.

WW didn't work for me. I too have one of those bodies that doesn't respond well to dieting and exercise. You might try just doing a low-carb diet since SBD worked for you.

The beauty of Weight Watchers is that every diet could fit within Weight Watchers. I have never been able to lose weight through diet and exercise until I got into Weight Watchers. I have lost 39 lbs on Weight Watchers doing it the Jenny Craig way(I didn't know that until I read the other post). I just pace my eating out across the day. I think it depends on the person and their preferences. I just hate getting to a point of desperation. Also, I have gone onto sparkpeople.com and really like it. I am getting into that more for the fitness aspect. It takes a while and once you find a rhythm stick with it. Feel free to e-mail me with questions if you want.

Have you had your thyroid checked? If yuor thyrois is not working properly, it is extremely hard to lose weight, even if you eat right & excersize. Weight watchers is WONDERFUL. I just started a month ago, and have lost 15 lbs.
