I am looking to loose about 15 pounds. I am wondering what weight loss products or ideas have worked for others. I have never "dieted" before or tried any type of weight loss products.
I started weight watchers when i was breast feeding my 4 month old. I had a million excuses holding me back, but when i finally started, the weight just melted away. I lost 25 lbs in 8 months by diet alone, and 10 more when i started at a women only gym. I am so glad i made this choice. I have a list a mile long of all the improvements these lbs have made to my life. The best of luck!

Hi, I've tried every gimmick and diet book on the market. I was finally able to lose 35 pounds on my own and it was actually pretty simple. I walk twice a day for about thirty minutes each, I do ab excercises and I limit my portion sizes. Cutting out all the foods I love has never worked but eating small frequent meals really helps! Good luck!

I was in the same boat. I never dieted, and never lost a pound in my life, just steadily gained, and gained. I love to eat and loved huge portions of carbs. I read the South Beach Diet book, and "loosely" followed the program for a week, and then have just kept the principles in mind for the last 3 months. It changed my outlook and I've lost 10 lbs which is huge for me.

Hi T.,
6 years ago I joined Weight Watchers. In one year, I lost 60 pounds. By attending the meetings, eating the right foods and simply walking in my neighborhood, I have managed to keep it off for the last 5 years. I also went down 12 dress sizes. 3 1/2 years ago I had my daughter and 7 months ago I had my son and kept the weight off afterwards both times. Basically, the meetings motivate and inspire you to keep the weight off. The other members in the meeting give tips, advice, etc. Weighing in every week keeps you accountable. They have Mommy & Me meetings whereas you can take your children to the meeting without worrying if they are going to be too noisy. They have toys play with, and you get to enjoy they meeting. They also offer a plan for nursing moms.
Prior, I had tried everything else and this was the only thing that worked because it is not about being on a diet but more about changing your lifestyle. It absolutely changed my life and now inturn I am teaching my children how to eat healthy too.
I hope this helps.

Becoming vegetarian and taking 5HTP daily have finally ended years of yoyo weight for me. I am 57 years old and I have tried it all--including the starvation diet during which I lost 75 pounds in one summer and sent my physician into a raging rant. However, I was also jogging a lot during that time and he thinks that the exercise is probably what saved me from a massive amount of heart damage. I do not recommend that route. Over the next 30 years I went up and down between 122 and 145 depending upon season and stress levels. I fully believe the vegetarian diet is making all of the difference in the world. I have stayed between 122 and 125 for about 2 years now and feel and look very good. There are several good books on 5HTP and the multitude of health issues it helps one to deal with. Check out amazon.com for used copies of a couple of them and do your own research.

Hi T.,
It all depends on if you want temporary or permanant weight loss. All diets work (temporarily). For a permanant change you need a change in lifestyle. With diets we tend to be good while we lose the weight and then we stop dieting and the weight always comes back. How many times have you lost the same 10 or 15 pounds? I started exercising and tracking what I eat. Tracking really makes you aware of WHAT and WHEN you are eating. I use www.VFL.com It's a wonderful system that helps you track online, suggests supplements and foods depending on your likes, needs, etc. It's a membership by referral. It's only $36 to join but for every day you log your meals you get $1 credit so it only costs $6 for the month. It's a way to keep you accountable. That's how weight watchers has been so successful, accountability. I used to go to weight watchers and it was $14 week to get weighed in and if you wanted to do it online it was about $9 week. If you have an interest I can refer you and show you how to get started. I've lost 20 pounds and kept it off with this system. There's even an entire exercise regime for you on the website. It shows you how to do the exercise and everything. There's also a place to log your blood pressure and so on. Lots of good helpful health information and tips too!

Hey T.! Don't resort to weight loss products you can do it on your own. I compete and I don't even use them to get down to 7.5% bodyfat! Depends on how lean you want to go but eating 5-6 small meals a day will help boost your metabolism. If you aren't working out-start! Cardio 5-6 times a week for 30 minutes and weight training 2-3 times a week. I am a Personal Trainer and if you would like more advice just call me. I am not looking for business unless you decide you need it but I would love to do a consult with you if you like for free of course! ###-###-####

Hi,
I started this diet a while back called reset. It is a way to reset your whole body. I lost 40 lbs that I have been carrying around ever since having my 2 kids. Nothing I ever did seemed to take it off. Now I have gone from a size 16 to a size 8. I also must say I feel great!
It will regulate blood sugar levels, lower cholesterol, triglycerides and the best part reset your metabolism. It is not a fad diet, it actually helps to reset your bodies system so you lose the cravings and lose the pounds naturally. It was formulated by a Doctor named Dr. Strand and is used by doctors all over the world. I found out about it by Dr. Christiane Northrup if you have ever heard of her. I have included a link to a recorded meeting about the program that you can watch or you can come to a meeting in Boulder on January 9th about it. If you would rather you can also call me directly to find out more about it.

I highly recommend this as a method to effectively, healthfully and naturally lose weight. It includes fiber and protein shakes, detox tea, weight loss chews which act as natural appetite suppressants and energy enhancers, and dietary supplements that also suppress your appetite.
Arbonne also has a website designated just for those trying to lose weight with this system. It's great because it allows you to communicate with others using the system. You can also get recipe ideas and success tips on the site. It's all available to you with the purchase of the system.
You can try it, and if for some reason you feel it isn't for you, Arbonne has a 45-day money back guarantee! If you're interested or would like to try some FREE samples before you buy, please feel free to contact me at: ____@____.com or ###-###-####. As several people have stated here, the best way to keep weight off is to make sure you establish healthy eating and exercise habits. Without lifestyle changes, you may lose the weight, but you are not likely to keep it off. Focus on healthy eating with whole grains, lean meats and dairy (unless you are vegetarian, then you will need alternate proteins), and lots of fruits and vegetables. Exercise is also a must for permanent weight control. Small changes can yield good results. You should try to have both strength training exercises (lifting weights, even if it is your own body weight as in push-ups, sit-ups and squats) and aerobic exercises (walking, running, biking, swimming, group exercise classes). Lifting weights has been shown to be one of the best ways for women to lose abdominal fat. Walking is great exercise if you don't know what you want to do. Start with 10-15 minutes, and add a few minutes every couple of days. Try to get a total time of at least 20 minutes, even if it means you walk two different times for 10 min each time. Do a couple simple stretches when you are done. Good luck!

It is not a diet, but a lifestyle. I am a lifetime member who has not attended a meeting in a decade, but will be starting again now (still have 25 pounds to lose after the birth of my 2 boys). To copliment the Weight Watchers plan I also recommend the Eat Right For Your Blood Type book. Again this is not a diet, but a lifestyle. It makes sense and suggests certain foods to stay away from based on your blood type. Lucky my husband an I are both A positive!

Hi T.,
Diets don't work ... just look at the first 3 letters! It says "die"! :o) Whenever you put something in your mouth ask yourself, is it building me up or is it tearing me down? Most diets, fad diets, are concerned with weight loss at the expense of overall health, never optimal health which should be our goal. Are you losing weight safely or digging your grave doing it? Every time we eat or drink we are making health decisions.
Why diets don’t work:
Can’t keep it up over a lifetime
They are unhealthy, unbalanced mono-nutrient oriented
Most are too low in calories. The body conserves fat at all costs, will burn muscle before fat
What does work?
Moderate graduate but permanent changes
Eat the majority of calories early in the day
Don’t eat after 7pm
Eat frequently – should never feel deprived. It's called the ELMO plan of eating ... Eat Less More Often!
Minimize white foods
Decrease bad fats, increase good fats
Lower stress
Exercise
Rules for improving your health:
Convert to a plant-based diet
70% of what you consume should be raw
Variety, variety, variety!
Supplementation is not a substitute
Eat breakfast every day = the Juice Plus+ Complete with flaxseed and other goodies
Drink 8 glasses of filtered water daily. We’re 74% water
Eliminate toxins from the diet
I have some resources if you want to give me a call this weekend ... ###-###-####.

Dieting works great if you combine it with exercise. This way you create a greater calorie deficit. Losing weight is all about expending more calories than you consume. People who are nursing are often worried about their milk supply running out, but this doesn't happen unless the weight loss is extremely fast. Also, exercise is a far safer option for the baby than taking weight loss products, which are made of God only knows what. I wouldn't want that stuff getting into the baby's milk! Baby Boot Camp is a great way to get in some exercise. It's actaully designed specifically for moms (of any fitness level) and our physical needs. It works! I lost 18 pounds my first 3 months as a BBC member. And it is so fun to be around other moms! You can sign up for a free class online at www.babybootcamp.com.
Let me know if you need any more info.

I like sparkpeople.com for tracking food and exercise. I don't use the suggested menus. And I don't count vegetables toward my total because that's just not fair :P
It's amazing when you start looking at portion size how BIG everything has gotten. I like to drink chai tea as a treat and was very surprised when I measured out one portion (1/2 cup to 1/2 cup milk) and it was only about 1/2 of the mug that I usually use (which is a relatively small mug!)

I would abandon ALL fad diets out there. Don't get suckered in and use common sense.
1. Figure out how many calories you need daily:
Convert your weight from pounds to kilograms.
Take your height in inches and multiply it by 2.54
Take your weight in pounds and divide it by 2.2.Then, for female calorie requirements:
655 + [9.6 x (weight in kg)] + [1.8 x (height in cm)] - [4.7 x (age in yrs)]
2. Drink a TON of water.
3. Keep your foods to proteins, fruits and vegetables, and whole grains - I use 40% carbs, 30% protein and 30% fats - good fats only
4. Keep a food journal. Use www.fitday.com to help you. It is free. They keep track of your calories, percentages, and other reports. Very useful.
For EXERCISE:
Calories burned must exceed calories taken in.
Use HAVE to use cardio AND resistance training (weights). Studies have been done to show that both yield the best results. Resistance training allows you to change your body composition to be more percentage of muscle rather than more of a percentage of fat. Cardio is good, but studies have shown that interval training is best. Running/jogging for 1 minute and 3 minutes fast walking and repeat this cycle for 30 minutes. I would alternate 3 days weights, 3 days cardio for total of 6 days a week. I would recommend Book of Muscle for lifting. Don't be weired out or shy away because it is from Mens Health. It is a HUGELY and WIDELY respected book. You can google it.
Plus, use accountability. Create a team (I would be in - I have holiday weight unfortunately to lose and am just starting this week obviously to kick it).
Also check out "New Rules of Lifting for Women" by Lou Schuller. He wrote Book of Muscle. Very well respected author and EXPERT.

Well, to say the least I LOVED it and it worked. It is not a diet but a lifestyle, a change in how you eat, not what you eat. I highly suggest it. In about months, I lost 30lbs and never felt deprived. And in the process learned how to eat and in turn, learned how to feed my family and new baby (once he started solids). A book called 'Eat Right for your Blood Type' you need to know your blood type and it gives food menu ideas -- I did not follow it to the 't' but very close - only cheated with a few things I feel I cannot live without and lost 4 pants sizes in just about 3 months. I went from a size 14 to a size 8 and I am comfortable there and feel so much healthier!! I am 44 years old and I did this 1 year ago in August 06. I have not gained any significant weight back and I can tell when I cheat from my list -- I get indigestion or I'm in the bathroom alot. I don't see any bad side to this book and the authors theory. Also I have not worked out and if I did -- I could only imagine the other benefits as she tells you what type of work out is best for your blood type as well. You can find it in any health food store or book store. I bought my family women the book for christmas last year. this book is the best kept secret!!!

I had to cut out dairy while breastfeeding and while it was difficult, just doing that helped me lose about 10 pounds. Beyond that, the things I try to stick to are high protein, high fiber foods that my body actually uses. No pills are worth it, I think. There are certain bars and shakes out there, like anything made by Kashi or even SpecialK, that work well. Slim-fast is okay too, but the soy, high-protein, or Optima (sugar free) kinds are best. And forget about the whole "no-carb" thing - I find that carbs are just fine, as long as they are whole-grain and not refined, etc. And my best is always to walk at least 4 times / week for and hour. Also, they have a calendar to keep track of what you eat. Plus, they have a extensive data base that you can use to search for food and find out nutritional info about all foods. If you count calories and work out you should lose wieght. That is how I lost 60 lbs! Good luck.

Hi, I went to my dr for help for a couple reasons. They will monitor your health while you are losing weight and if you have to go in every month to see how you have done, you will be more conscious about losing weight.
He gave me the Rx Phentermine. I love it. I supresses your appetitite just enough with out taking away your hunger completely, and it gives you energy while having a clear mind. You will probably lose a little bit of sleep for the first week while your body adjusts, but as long as you take it early enough in the day you should be fine.
The next thing is you don't have to deprive yourself. What you normally eat in maintaining you appetite, so if you continue to do that (eat what you eat) take out 1/4 of every meal. You won't be starving yourself if you take the Rx and cut your meals and you will still feel great.
Next, your body will only burn calories for 3 hours at a time. So Be ure you eat something at the 3 hour mark inbetween you meals even if it is a baby carrot stick (hungry or not). And don't eat anything 3 hours before bed. If you go to bed at midnight don't eat after 9.
Lastly, pop is so bad for you. I am a dr.pepper addict (diet doesn't do much help for you either) and the carbonation in the pop in not good for you and neither is the syrup. The diet has too many unatural additives along with the carbonation mixed. Try the wild strawberry energy Crystal lite. It has helped me control my soda cravings and gives me my caffiene too. (If you aren't a pop addict, you don't have to worry about that part..lol)
I hope everything works out for you. Please go see a dr. I promise it will help. I am down 25 pounds right now and i am loving it. I haven't gained or lossed during the holidays though, I will consider that a good thing.

Hi T.!
Depending on where you are at, for instance, if you are nursing then you should not do cleansings or fasts as this negatively affects your breastmilk. If not, then maybe a good place to start would be a cleanse. You don't have to do a program for this, you can do a few days of eating tons of fresh veggies, fiber, natural juices and water. Then at that point, make dietary changes, limit sugar, white flour products and saturated fats (No hydrogenated fats). With somewhat easy changes, we can be so much healthier, better to make lifestyle changes then follow a "diet", I think.
I am personally using Cinch from Shaklee to gradually lose my pregnancy weight. The program educates you on healthy eating habits as well as provides really tasty shakes and bars. To find out more, you can go to http://www.cinchplan.com/startahealthylife/home there are also support websites as well that others have found really helpful in sticking with their goals.
Also, to lose weight, you need to exercise. I hate the gym, so I try to go for an hour walk everyday and then I do Winsor Pilates at home (I have a few dvds). I really enjoy the Pilates and walking is good for so much, I don't break a sweat, but I am doing me and my baby a lot of good.
I am working on losing weight too, it can be easy if we stick to practical eating and exercise habits. My mbiggest hangup is sweets... can't get enough of them!
Good luck!

Hi T.,
Good for you for not ever dieting!
In my journey to get my body back from childbirth my goals were to keep it simple and do it naturally... no dieting. The first thing I did was to not eat after 7:30 pm and make sure I was getting enough water to help flush some fat out! I choose Pilates as my workout 3 times a week and just by doing those two things the inches started coming off... then I hit the dreaded plateau. What to do next? I knew I had to look at my diet closer and what I was putting in my mouth. I added more fruits, veggies and berries by starting a product called Juice Plus+ (all natural 26 F,V&B in capsule form) and minimizing the 'white stuff' in my diet... you know bread, pasta oh yeah and the ice cream habit I had created during pregnancy. Fruits, berries and veggies pass through our system the quickest and are a daily cleanser for unwanted fat and plaque buildup in our body. As my blood became saturated with the good foods and water I lost my 'BAD' cravings and created more 'GOOD' cravings. About 1 year ago I added the JP+ Complete shake as a meal replacement(natural protein and helps build lean muscle mass for faster fat burning) and the JP+ Thins(fiber wafers) also all natural sources. These additions changed my body shape and health more than I could have ever imagined!
I was inspired by the SIMPLE changes in my diet that have brought me to the best health and shape of my life that I now am sharing my health journey, Juice Plus+ and teaching Pilates to help others!
Check out my website for more info about Juice Plus+ and feel free to respond with any questions.
Wishing you all the best on your health journey, L.

My husband and I dieted together this summer and it was great. I started by leaving one bite of everything on my plate. After I could do that and not feel hungry I started leaving anything that I didn't really like. I also started with veggies instead of meat and found I could leave a lot of meat and be fine. I did add in healthy snacks at this time as I was a bit hungry, but wince I was eating so much less at meals it worked. I went from a size 16 to a 10 this way. I've pretty much kept it off even though I'm now about 4 months pregnant. It's a lifestyle change that I am grateful to have made. The hardest part was working through the cravings, but it really is true that after a while of not eating something, you don't crave it. I only have pop at Sonic, which is next to never, but I love their mixes. Today I ate one bite of my favorite brownies and didn't crave more. Hanging in is the toughest part, but very rewarding. Accountability and support help a lot!
I also do the New York Ballet's workout because I need the muscle strength and it's virtually no impact. I love what it's done for my shape.
Good luck. You can do it!

Hi T. -
What has really worked to help me lose weight is the website www.sparkpeople.com It's based on developing a healthy lifestyle based on good nutrition, excercise, plenty of very useful information and community support.
I particularly like that you plug in your weight loss goals and it gives you options for a weight loss plan. I also love the food tracker - enter what you eat (or what you plan to eat) and it gives you a full nutritional analysis, in a format that's easy to understand.
Hope this helps!
