Weight Loss - Santa Barbara,CA

A few friends of mine have lost a lot of weight. I used to be 'normal' weight and now I am over weight. I think my metabolism changed and I now I eat more (I hate always throwing out the food the kids do not eat).

Anyway I am tempted to order one the the weight lost patches. Of course it says all natural, but i noticed caffeine.

Has anyone here tried a patch that is used for weight loss. The brand I am considering has good reviews on amazon. I read reviews online. it also sounds like something people try to recruit new costumers with and that part really annoys me.

I have been trying to lose weight for awhile and it has just gotten worse over the past 5 years. I almost 40 and that is not helping either.

What can I do next?

There's no magic pill or patch out there.

Bottom line is exercise, reduce calories, eat healthy food and drink lots of water.

If you hate leftovers.... Put them in a ziploc for children to finish later.

It's a way of life, not a diet. Moderation is key

I am wary of all so called magic bullets. Might I suggest that you make your kids smaller portions. They can always have seconds, it they are still hungry, and you won't face the prospect/ temptation of being a human waste disposal.

An alternative is plate yourself only salad. Eat it while the kids eat. When they are done, take all their left overs and put it on your plate, if it seems too heavy handed a portion, stop, don't feel compelled to eat it all. You are doing yourself and them a disservice if you over-eat.

I prefer the first approach personally. I think that they should see you eating your own food along with them. Mom deserves a meal too, and not just the kiddie scraps.

Best,

You said you are overweight and now you eat more. So reduce your calories and start moving. Forget the fad diets and gimmicks. Good luck.

I've learned that our metabolism does change as we age. BUT cutting calories can send your body into a reverse spin. If you're not eating enough calories to support the systems it will start storing everything you eat as fat just like it does when we get dehydrated and we swell/retain water. It stores up what it thinks it's going to be going without.

So make sure you do eat enough calories. Eating foods low in carbs and low in fat that are real, good, food will help your body metabolism stay at the peak.

Losing weight is done wrongly so many times. I was told by the nutritionist that I needed to eat at least double the calories I was eating. She told me to eat more veggies and stuff instead of cutting stuff out.

I eat a lot of food. It's healthy food though ! I try to do 30 minutes of exercise a day !!!

Lifting light weights at 40 is ideal. After age 35, a small percentage of muscle is replaced by fat---unless u have a tiny "gene" body!

Instead of eating the leftover food, get a glass dish w/ a cover !!! This way the leftover will look appetizing and no plastic wrap waste in the environment !

Then, grab a GLASS of WATER !!

You already know the answer. Stop eating all the food the children leave or feed them better so that the leftovers are veggies and good quality protein. If you choose to eat leftovers then don't make yourself a plate.

There is no magic pill or patch, the only thing that works is to eat less/healthier and move more. It is important to make changes you can stick with for life.

Can you use the salad plate as your regular plate? Most Americans pile the food on a plate until it is full and then try to eat it all. The smaller plate if you take a little of this and that will fill up quickly. Don't go back for refills and leave filling a little empty. I know, if you could just have a little bit more well sometimes when we do that, we put too much more on our plate and really fell "stuffed".

I had a boss once who decided to lose weight and he ate everything except he would cut it in half and share it, put it up or throw it away. After about six months he had lost a considerable amount and felt really well.

To lose weight and to keep it off you are going to have to change your thinking about eating and make it a life long commitment. If you don't do it, you will be right back where you are now. It didn't take you overnight to get to your current size and it will not be overnight to lose the weight. Just steady and slow and stay the course and the weight will come off. Do do exercise and drinking lots of water. If need be, fill up on water while you eat, you won't eat as much. Your stomach will shrink and when it does, don't stretch it out again by over eating.

PS I have watched a few of those programs of the 500 to 700 pound plus person. A lot of heartache there about their condition.

I became overweight with pregnancy, not uncommon I know...I actually just started losing the weight now just by eating healthy. I lost 16 lbs, and the last time I was 16 lbs lighter was 7 years ago. I have a ways to go, but just wanted to throw in that using dietbet.com with a friend was actually a very good motivator for me, I paid 20 bucks and won 30. Look into it. You may be surprised how a little healthy competition can motivate you! I lost 10 lbs with the bet, and it is looking like I am on a roll, I noticed once I started the ball rolling its not as difficult as I thought, really! Good luck to you.

Sounds like a gimmick. Look into JJ Virgin's plan. I'm coming off of a detox which I hope will jump start lasting weight loss for me and many of the people in my detox group are moving on to JJ Virgin's weight loss plan, which eliminates 7 key foods over several weeks.

My brother and sister have also had good results with the Shakeology/Team Beach Body program of detox, shakes and fitness. My brother lost 15 lbs of fat, gained some muscle, and lowered his cholesterol by 40 points over 6 months. He's working on another 12-15 lbs of weight loss to get to his ideal weight. One of my sisters lost 7 lbs in the fall, maintained through the holidays and lost another 6 in January. She's 40 and for the first time in her life, bikini ready (I'm jealous LOL). The nutrition program is very similar to what I did and uses up-to-date info (which is that sugar is the root of weight gain, so eliminate sugar and increase your fats). I didn't go with that program because I know that my issues were more hormonal (I gained weight AFTER each pregnancy) and thought that I would get better results with a hormone-based process first, so I pursued the Hormone Cure program and feel great. I lost 6 lbs in 3 weeks, which is a big deal for me and I hope is the start of something great.

Anyway...don't waste your time and money on shortcuts. Real weight loss is a matter of eliminating the foods that are causing inflammation and fat gain (sugar, including fruits, grains, dairy, which can be inflammatory, alcohol and caffeine, which can mess with your hormones) and adding foods that your body needs and loves - good fats such as avacados, clean meat, olives and olive oil, coconut oil, clean protein such as poultry and fish, and veggies, veggies, veggies.

Try OA... it's free and you can learn why it is you turn to food.. on their website, they have some questions to answer and if you answer yes, then the FREE program might be for you..
I attend and have discovered it's not just about weightloss, it's also emotional and spiritual (what that might mean to you) as they don't preach about God, but do contend that one may have a higher power as the person knows it.. (for some it's nature)
anyway... check em out, it's a good program and as mentioned, free..

good luck

Hi S.,

My husbands weight went up and down for years. When I finally put my foot down to ANOTHER diet, I decided I would get him healthy. The side effect was his weight loss. That was nine years ago and he has kept it off...never before did it stay off. It always came back with a vengeance.

I started him on absorbable multivitamin (absorbable is key and most don't!) and the weight started to fall off. Sixty pounds in six months, another 50 in five. Then steadily down. He stopped taking the vitamin and stabilized over the next few years. Wanting to lose weight again, I reminded him how we lost it the first time, so he began the vitamin again. 38 pounds in two months for a total of 148 pounds. He never changed his eating habits or his activity level. Nutrition is simply the key!

Regards,
M.

There is no magic pill/patch/diet/potion that will do it. It's simply your choices. Eat less, or eat more of the healthy stuff. Move!! Exercise will not only make you feel better, it will help you drop weight if you do the right kind/amount.

I actually had gastric bypass about 18 months ago and am looking into starting the couch to 5k program. I eat WAY less than I did before, but I still have some weight to drop on my own. I know how to do it, and am getting geared up for it. Increase protein, I already drink a TON of water, and move more. It works.
