My son was always 97th percentile weight and 80th percentile height until the age of 4, when things started evening out. He's now a solid 80/80 kid. Give them time to work through the baby stages (three still has the baby "fat" look!) and encourage her to be active and offer healthy snacks like carrots and fruits. You determine what she eats, she'll decide how much she eats.

Ask your pediatrician, they're the best judge for that. As long as she stays active in her life & makes healthy choices in her eating, then I wouldn't worry. If it really is a concern, then get active with her. Do Mommy & Me exercise classes or videos - it'll be great for both of you!

I wouldn't worry yet. I have a 3 1/2 year old daughter who is also 38 pounds and is in the 90th percentile for her height. The doctor has told me she is fine because she is so tall. My daughter is very active and never sits still but we don't eat junk food. Any snacks she has are either fruit, pretzels or one of those 100 calorie packs. Very rarely does she get candy and that is a treat. If you teach her good eating habits now you should have nothing to worry about. She will lose her baby fat in a few years.

Hi C.,
Childhood obesity is an epidemic in this country so I can understand your concerns about making sure your child's weight is healthy. The best way to determine this is to ask your pediatrician. He/she is the only person qualified to answer your question accurately.
Have a good day - C.

I don't think your little girl sounds overweight to me.
I have a little boy who's always only been in the 10th percentile, and at 2 yrs. old he was only 24 pounds.
BUT......he has a little friend who at 2 yrs. old weighed 34 pounds!
PLEASE don't worry about her weight now. She has the rest of her life to worry about it if she has to!
