We'd like to Find Home for Our Dog.

We lost our beloved dog of 13 years back in June and so heartbroken we went out and got a new puppy in July. It was too much for us to handle with a 11 month old. Sadly, we think the best thing for her, us, and our toddler is to try and find her a new home. She is 7 months now and a very good and sweet dog, but has too much energy for us and we haven't been able to give her the training she needs. She is on the small size of medium and has the color and body style of a germam shepherd. The training we have given her she has responded well to but needs more than we can give her. She would be a great pet for a child around 8 or 9 who can love her and learn the responsibility and reward of training and creating a best friend. She has never shown and aggression towards our 16 month old and gets along just fine with our cat. I feel awful doing this, but feel it isn't fair to keep her kenneled half the day and constantly be scorned for just being a young dog when it's really us who are to blame. She is fully housebroken.

HI, Is it male or female?
Are you located in R.I.?
Would you be open to havingus visit with the dog first? My husband and I have talked about adopting a dog for us and our 2 yr old son, and were waiting for the spring.
Please feel free to e mail me @ ____@____.com.
Thanks, J. Greene

Hi R..

I know it's a hard choice to find a new home for a furry family member. We had to put our dog down last September. We also had 2 ferrets since they were kits. While I love my ferrets, they are not a good pet for a infant/toddler so we made the decision to find them a new home as we couldn't spend time with them or let our daughter play with them. Fortunately, someone we knew was looking for a ferret. So I do understand how hard it is to give up a pet who is part of your family.
My husband and I are actually currently looking for a small to medium sized dog. My daughter is going to be 2 in 8 days. We work opposite shifts so someone is always home and we feel it's the right time for us to start looking.
I'm definately interested in offering a new home to your dog. If you'd like to email me off loop, my email address is ____@____.com.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Best of luck
Ali

Hi R.:

I think you should contact the MSPCA. There are many people looking for a dog like this. She is still young. Puppies have the best chance of being adopted especially if they are good with children.

R.,
Let me first say it's never easy having to give up a pet for whatever reason. We just recently had to do so because we moved and were not allowed to have dogs...my heart is still broken. However, we posted our love on Craigslist. We did place a "rehoming fee" to make sure we had serious inquiries and serious people. We also set times up to have the people come by and meet us and the dog. This allowed us to see how they would interact with the dog and how the dog would respond to them. We ended up finding a great family for our dog...it's not easy but I can rest easy knowing that our dog is with a great family. Just make sure you do your homework on them and have them check into the breed of dog etc. so make sure they do their homework as well.
I wish you the best of luck.

Hi R.

I'm just wondering what kind of dog it is & if it's male or female. I have a nice amount of land & I do have a st. bernard (1yr old) who is WONDERFUL with other dogs/animals. I have 2 kids (boys) and they are phenominal with all creatures. Any info on the type/breed/sex/age (7 months you said?) and what training it has so far - would be great. I know either myself would be interested & I know a few couples who are looking for a new pup to adopt (they'd rather have a pup than a full grown dog ... for training purposes ofcourse - it's easier that way unfortunantly). Thanks a bunch & good luck!

while you are looking for a new home be sure to ask people for vet and other references and aside from here you could also post an add on craigslist.
