My 18 month old son loves to watch the weather. I was wondering if any other moms out there know a fun weather-related toy that would be age appropriate? Thanks

What can I do next?

try a local teachers store (Learning tree in Danvers or Woburn) they have weather charts that schools use to mark the day's weather

Baby Einstein makes cute weather flash cards. You could also make your own easily. The other day I had my 17 month old daughter paint a snowy day. I gave her a piece of blue construction paper, white tempra paint and a paintbrush. She had a blast and was super proud to show it off to her Dada!

You can also make snow crystals: http://chemistry.about.com/cs/howtos/ht/boraxsnowflake.htm

You can buy this little plastic piece that screws on to two 2 liter bottles and make water tornado: http://www.amazon.com/Be-Amazing-Twister-Tube-Connector/d...

Amazon.com has some cute "season puzzle" and "weather chart" for little kids.

Best of luck with your future meteorologist!

If you live close to Dover Nh there is a great educational toy store and teachers store called the noggin factory. They also have online shopping. They are awesome.

Hi J..
I don't know of any toys but you could make a chart and you could help your son use to chart the weather everyday. I'm sure if you check out the websites of some of the children's museums they probably have some great ideas.

You could print out pictures of the sun, clouds, etc. on sticky paper and then stick them to magnets (you can buy at craft store or staples) and your son can use them on the fridge or the dishwasher or other magnetic board.

A lot of the science museum gift shops have great toys. The Ecotarium in Worcester has a huge weather exhibit now, so they probably have things in the gift shop that connect to that. You could try the Children's Museums in Boston and Providence, and the Boston Museum of Science - I'm sure you can look on line if you don't live close enough to go in.

J.,

Other than a sled I don't know of a toy but going out while it is snowing and trying to catch snowflakes on your tongue is a lot of fun. Also making snow angels and snow men. You can get creative with all the garb you put on your snowmen. You can make a fort or igloo. Make an obsticle course or just roll around and see what you can make. I think trying to use your imagination with the snow might be more fun than a toy.
