I have been making bows/flower for my daughter's hair and I just made her first tutu. My son is starting to get a little jealous because I have not made him anything. I have knitted him a hat (but we live in Phoenix, so he only gets to wear it a month or two out of the year) and crocheted him a blanket (he does use this in his bedroom most of the year), but I can not for the life of me think of a little accessory that I can make him that will not take too long and he can wear. I am pretty crafty, so if you can suggest something I can probably figure out how to do it if I don't know already. It does not need to be a project we can do together. I think he just wants something to wear that 'Mommy made'.
Any ideas?
Two people have asked how old he is. He is Two and a Half.
Make him his own tutu. My youngest is a boy, he wanted girl stuff when they got it. So he's a boy, he got dolls too
They all had capes,
vests
fireman/policeman vest shirt
HandyManny toolbelt
Train conductor hat/shirt
Western gear, with cowboy hat
ties

Superman cape with his initials on it! You can use solid colored fleece. And a different solid color for his initial. Like "T" for Tom. You can also sew or hot glue gun on stars and a lightning bolt. I did this with my son once and he LOVED it.

my teens where macrame necklaces and bracelets. My 18 year old just asked me to make him a sqareknot cord with monster drink can tabs in it. He wears it snow boarding and thinks its awesome. I have 3 boys and a girls and when the guys were young I made them Pirate hats (bandannas with the extra taken out of them so they're more like a skull cap) swords and sheaths (we did both wooden and pvc pipe swords with the sheaths made of nylon cordage that velcros closed at the waist and complete the outfit with pirate eye patch, striped black and white pants, fake bling and a big gold earring to clip on his left ear. Or we made them pvc pipe marshmallow guns, rubber band guns, and sling shots. Ok I know this sounds like a bunch of aggressive weaponry but hard as I tried to keep my kids away from toy guns...they'd just chew their pizza into guns and use that as a weapon. The key is to CONSTANTLY remind them that they are the defenders of women, children and the helpless and to NEVER point a weapon at something you don't intend to destroy..
Do a Cape, Superhero Shield, Sword, Mask and Arm Band.

I second the cape. Also a mail bag with fabric letters to distribute, arm warmers - you can make them from socks of knit fabrics. He can have a whole collection to rival your dd's bows- skulls, camo, stripes, etc. He can wear them with his tees for those too cool for short sleeves but too hot for a sweater weathers.

we picked out plain canvas tote bags and plain aprons at walmart along with iron on patches (letters and designs) and my 2 yo son "helped" me iron on his name & decorations personalizing each item. He uses his bag to bring his clothes etc to school and the apron for home art projects. I also did this for my first son's bday party using smaller totes for the goody bags. all my kids loved them.

I have that problem too. There are just so many things to make a girl. I sew my son some shorts or pants he can wear around the house. I find a fabric I think he will like. I also crochet him stuffed animals. Or maybe you can make him a friendship bracelet. Or several so he can give them out to friends. I made him and his sister little leashes to put on their stuffed animals and clothes for their stuffed animals/dolls.

You can make him a T-shirt. We have used tye dye, puffy paint or fabric markers. What about a cute hat or visor. That could be cute.

Maybe a tightly knit little messenger bag (not a purse but a boys messenger bag style) to carry a book/coloring/drawing things and some cars and such for when you are out and about...his wallet or some sort of coin carrier to match for his own little purchases.
My Mother was a very crafty person. She could sew and quilt and knit and crochet..she did it all. She always was making things for holidays and birthdays and just because for her grandkids. She made bags like this for the boys too (then the girls asked for girly colored ones..for library bags...etc..she did quilted ones, sewn ones, knitted and lined ones...she changed it up alot so they were all different)....and the hats.scarves and mitts..but we live in Minnesota, so ALOT of call for those and slippers!
But all of them ended up with a "Gramma B bag" at some point....and they are treasured now as we lost her suddenly 3 years ago.
Have fun!

What about camouflage colors or 'boy' colors... and instead of making a Tutu... make him a 'vest'?
Or a 'belt'... that he can wear and hang his toys/tools on.
Or a 'fanny pack' type thing?
How old is he?

not sure if you have a sewing machine, but you can do this without too... make him some tee shirts that have appliques on them in cool fabrics. Make the objects things he loves in colors he loves. The fabric stores now carry alot of disney & tv character fabrics that can be used too. Example: Make an applique with the first letter of his name (which he may recognize now) and then a small little dinosaur overlapping a corner of the letter. If you don't sew, you can get fusible webbing that is permanent and iron it on the fabric and teeshirt. I have tried just using the webbing with my girls and I don't think it holds up in the wash, so hand sewing or machine sewing a little zigzag stitch around the outside edge will help.

Socks! My 3 yr old son has knitted socks that he wears around the house, not necessarily with shoes. There is a set of five, all in mixed bright colors, so there aren't any exact pairs but they all look similar. He loves them. You can make glue gun dots on the bottom to make them non-skid if you have smooth floors like most of us in AZ!

What about a little native American Indian bag, with his favorite color beads strung on tassles that he could collect little rocks or put a few of his favorite cars into while out and about?

hi.
The first thing that came to mind was a paintable t-shirt. He could even get involved with what goes on it. The only other thing that came to mind was "customized" flip flops. I know girls decorate theirs with bows and rhinestones, but perhaps there would be some boyish decorations (trucks, cars, etc.) that could made his shoes special, too. As far as the hat, kids need sunhats in Arizona. A personalized canvas sun hat, maybe? Good luck, Mama!

I'd suggest a boys "construction worker" apron. Like bob the builder. It can be full or half. Just have lots of pockets, a hammer loop, etc. Then you can get him toy tools for it. He will wear it all the time and LOVE it!

Fun question, I just got some ideas for my son and I have the same problem as you, I make tons of bows for my daughter, not so much for my son! A couple things I've done... Cape (I know you already that suggestion, but he LOVES it, and it isn't hard to do) draw-string bag, and ties. I've made matching ties for him and dad, they look really cute. I've also made a skirt for me and ties for my son and husband out of the same material (before my daughter was born) Take him with you to the fabric store and let him pick out the tie material. My son has a horse tie, construction equipment tie, it's fun!

I use to do that too when my kids were little. For birthday parties i remember making all the kids orange aprons (basically orange belt with a pocket hanging down), i think they have them now at home depot. boys usually love costumes so I'd go with eye mask and cape. The simpler the better too!
