So many people told me to do it a million different ways... but I had to weed through them all till I found one that worked. I finally just stopped giving her formula period. I tried mixing it, like 1/2 formula 1/2 milk... that made her stomach upset... I tried what you are doing, but she didn't want anything to do with it. Finally I just took the formula away, she seemed fine when she realized the formula was gone. It didn't take long. My advice, it's a "what works best for her" type situation. Good Luck!

I did what Dawn did. I was advised to do 3/4 formula 1/4 milk one week, then 1/2 and 1/2 and then 3/4 milk to 1/4 formula and obviously just milk. From my understanding it was so they could adjust to handling the milk for digestion purposes. I don't know but I did those nuby cups my son was on those at 6 months old he only had a bottle at night. By a year he was completely on milk and no bottle. Good luck!

I actually breast fed my daughter, but went through the same controversy. A lot of people say to replace a bottle or cup with whole milk each day until eventually they are all replaced. I personally didn't like that idea so I took my own approach. She took 5 oz bottle so I mixed them together. My doctor who is awesome told me this process was great. To begin I used 4 ozs of breast milk and 1 oz of whole milk. I would give it a day or two and go 3:2 and contine 2:3 and 1:4 until everything is whole milk. This seems more gentle on the babies stomache. We actually did this process over three months, but it was because I was struggling to keep up with the breast milk and didn't want to use formula. We actually did the 4:1 for a month a half.

I did it cold turkey. One night my daughter had a bottle of formula before bed, when she got up the next morning she got a sippy of milk. We never looked back. Cleaned the bottles that night and put them away for good. She did fine for a couple of days, then I think she realized she wasn't getting her bottle or the formula back and we struggled for about 2 days with her. She was drinking enough to not get dehydrated, then on day 3 she was fine. We also weaned at 11 months and she was fine. Good luck!

The best way to do it is just stop giving formula and give milk. My son drank soy frmula and it wasn't any harder taking him off the formula. My neighbor did it right, one night her daughter had a bottle with formula and then next morning she had a sippy cup with milk.
Good Luck!

My daughter is 11 months and takes soy formula also, until recently I placed her on lactose free milk in her bottle and slowly moving to a sippy cup. She seems to be doing great with it and it has been a couple of weeks I think that the lactose free is similiar to soy hopefully that helps.....Good luck!

Hi C., I have a two year old and I did it in steps. I breastfed first and what I did to trasition him to some formula was do half and half. Half breast milk with half formula. Then when it was time to switch to whole milk I added half formula to half whole milk. I gradually added less formula and more whole milk for about a week or two and then he was strictly converted to whole milk. You know your child best. This step by step process worked for my my son because he had to be on lactose free formula and Lactaid Whole milk, thats what he could tolerate.

Did the doctor tell you to get her completely off of formula and onto milk? I wouldn't think that would be necessary or desirable with a 11 mo. In fact, I always heard not to give dairy (milk) at ALL until over a year, and then do it slowly to make sure there is no allergy. At any rate, 3 cups or servings a day (including cheese, yogurt, etc.) is all they need of dairy (and that's once they aren't getting the formula), if I recall correctly (you could ask your doctor to be sure) so I would think she's getting plenty already, and I wouldn't worry about it. Many people go their whole life without drinking milk, it is not a necessity.
Don't know if that answered your question? I hope it helps!
Blessings,
Lynn

We weaned our daughter gradually, by mixing formula and milk together. We just cut down on the formula every few days until she was only drinking milk.
