Water Softener? - Mesa,AZ

We had one once upon a time. It broke, was going to be $500 to replace the filters so we let it die. Now that we have some brand new appliances already showing the effects of the hard water, we're considering a new one. We've seen them in the store ranging from $500-$1100. We had a representative from a company visiting us today quoting around $3500. Now, I understand, you get what you pay for, and these had much less maintenance and some even had a lifetime warranty. But, I wonder if any of you out there have one of these Mercedes water softeners and if you really see a difference between that and the Honda version I can get at Home Depot. We do live in Arizona, so the hard water is a given. Thanks Mamas!

Our builder insisted we get one at Lowes. We could have waited to get another culligan, but it was 2000 less. Well, right after the one year warranty expired, it went out. Two plumbers were unable to get the parts to repair it including the one who installed it. Whirlpool Gold.

I would consider a sears one because sears backs it up. i regretted paying so much for a softener by Culligan, but it works better than the other one did. they also have 6 month filters now and they change them out. We have owned culligan for 8 years with NO problem.

Even if you buy another brand, culligan will deliver salt and load it(we did this after I had surgery). it costs more, but since we were unable to do it, it was worth it.

I had both when I lived in Gilbert. Both went out about the same age...3-4 years old. Also, both functioned about the same. I would go with the cheaper one from Sears again, and save the money for the next one in another 3-4 years. Unfortunately, water softeners are not built to last (according to several plumbers I talked to), especially with Arizona's harsh water going through them! I did have one from Home Depot that went out way too fast, so I would go with Sears instead.

We used Aqua Science. We got the softner and RO system for around $2,000. Totally worth it!!

We have had both types of water softerners. the first was one we bought from sears & the second was a kinetico I did not feel in my skin or in my appliances any difference any either one of them. I would just look at the difference in warranties & maintenance does sears offer someone to fix it or do you do it yourself same with the other company.. good luck

I'm so glad you asked! I've been wondering about that "Smart Water" (I think that's the name of it) system. Anyone know about that? I'm from Chandler and this hard water is killing everything including our appliances. Ugh! Don't want that salt taste. We do have RO for drinking water. Anyone have experience with this type of system? Doesn't require any salt.
