Water Park and Pregnant

Ok, so this may seem like a silly question to a lot of ya'll, but I'm wondering about the wave pool at the water park. I'm pregnant and will be all summer. Is the wave pool safe for me to play in with my 5 year old? I was thinking about the waves pounding on my belly! She likes to walk in to the waves over and over and try to jump them. She holds my hand...so I'll be walking into them over and over too! I know not to ride the slides. My little girl really only likes to get in the lazy river and the wave pool. Lucky me for this summer!

What can I do next?

Oh, you'll be fine! I went to Great Wolf Lodge last September when I was 7 months along and very big. I really enjoyed the lazy river and the wave pool.

As long as you don't get knocked down or have the waves hitting your stomach you should be fine. I trekked around a Disney watermark at nine months pregnant with my last son. We stuck mostly to the little kids section for my oldest son, but did the lazy river and wave pool (stayed up front or farther out so I just bobbed). Just be careful and you should be fine. Have fun.

I was told no when I asked my doc. If I go in only up to my thighs so no risk of being knocked down, it could be okay. I am trying to figure out what we will do for a short vacation that will actually let ME have some fun.

I'm not entirely sure of the medical answer, but from what I've seen most water parks won't let you in the water preggers anyway.

You shouldn't go in any non-clorine treated water. Some waterparks have floats that use river water--Stay out of that. Make sure the water is sufficiently chlorinated. Sometimes the baby pools get contaminated with urine or feces... You don't want anyof that water getting in your vaginal area. Be careful what you expose yourself to.

I worked in a water park (as a lifeguard) for about 8 years. And as far as rules for pregnant women - applies to slides and rides only:)
Re: "hurting" baby - I believe there is plenty of fluid around the baby to protect it and the splashing waves shouldn't impact it. I say this because when I was 7 months preggers I was in a fender bender and I was so fearful that the baby was hurt and my midwives said it takes a lot more than that to penetrate the natural protection.
As others have mentioned, though, ask your doc to get clarification based on your situation.
Have so much fun this summer!!

Well, swimming is actually really good when you're pregnant, so I am all for the pool.
With the waterpark and supervising a 5 year old in the wave pool however, my biggest concern would be that you could easily loose your balance and fall. When you are pregnant your center of gravity shifts and many women are more prone to slipping and falling in situations like that.
Your baby is pretty well cushioned in your womb, the waves per se won't hurt him.

Nope, it's all safe. I did a water park when I was pregnant and was told to avoid the slides due to water flushing certain areas. However, to be honest, I did a couple anyway- it required sitting on a tube so minimal risk from the water being forced upwards (if you know what I mean). Also, I figured any ride that was safe for my 5 year old would be minimal risk to me (I was around 4months along at the time, not huge yet). Enjoy the water- it will keep you cool!

How pregnant are you? I was vacationing in Hawaii at 5 months and was in the water - scuba and body surfing (lightly). Check with your doc re. water, but I'm pretty sure everything's "protected" internally. Also check with the park as they may have their own rules about pregnant women (6months +), etc.

You will be fine in the wave pool and on the lazi\y river; enjoy the time with your daughter. Be sure to wear plenty of sun block and stay hydrated. Have a great time!

I'd talk to the doc about your particular pregnancy. I mostly floated in the lazy river and just walked around in the community pool when I was pregnant with DD. She's an August baby and I was just huge. The water took the weight off my body and felt great. My OB said it was a good way for me to cool off. I suspect the bigger issue with the wave pool is getting knocked over, not the waves. Depending on what else is at the park, you might want to encourage her to try other things or get someone else to take her in the wave pool some of the time.
