Water Ionizer and Alkaline Water

I have been eating a lot healthier and now googling regularly to read about other things to do to become more healthy. A lot of holistic sites are talking about Alkaline water. Is it just over priced water? Does anyone on this site have a water ionizer and know which brand/company is a good value. No prices are listed on line. I need to give my info so the various companies can contact me. This makes me think it is super expensive.

What can I do next?

my moms friend has one. As far as I know thy cost several thousand dollars. It sat on her kitchen counter and was roughly the size of a bread maker. She would fill bottles for my grandma pretty inexpensively when my grandma was undergoing chemo. My grandma swore it helped with her symptoms/side effects and might even say it prolonged her life. Sadly she died 5 years ago after about 18 months of fight. She was 82.

Water isn't supposed to be alkaline, nor is it supposed to be acidic. It's supposed to be neutral in pH.

Passion, how does adding an acid (lemon juice) make your water alkaline?

You can alkalinize your water (and body) by adding fresh lemon juice to it.

There's a company called Yoli who sells a product called Alkalete - which is a pill that does the same thing as alkalized water without having to buy/drink alkalized water. Disclaimer - DH sells it. I take it, have noticed I sleep better, have more energy, and have fewer aches/pains. Message me if you're interested in buying some and I'll send you the website, I'm not going to spam you. $30/bottle if you sign up for autoship, $35 if you don't.

I've heard really mixed reviews from various people who've tried both alkaline water and ionizers. Cost seems to be a major problem, and benefits, if there are any, may be invisible and cumulative. I'm skeptical.

But I'm interested, because I actually use an alkalinizing powder that contains nothing more than potassium carbonate and calcium carbonate (one of those is a bi-carbonate, forget which), plus baking soda. Since one of those ingredients is by prescription only, I have to buy this from a compounding pharmacy, but it's WAY cheaper and longer-lasting than the alternatives ($30 worth lasts me several years). I could probably find out the proportions if any moms are interested.

I am definitely more comfortable after I use this powder, but that may be because I've developed crazy sensitivities to the chemicals everywhere in modern life. I often feel like I'm uncomfortably filled with jabbing elbows, very distressing, when I become sensitized, which also results in higher body acidity. Often, exactly 16 minutes after I take half a teaspoon of my "tri-salts," I'll suddenly feel better, dramatically.

I also tend to have trouble breathing when I'm acidic, and it can give me sleep (and even waking) apnea. The alkalinizing salts fix it. Good stuff, if what you're suffering from is excess acidity. If not, I'm not certain it would do most people much good.

I know poeple who swear by it. Alkeline water is supposed to help your metabolism, your overall well being, help cleanse toxins, etc. Around here there are actually healthfood stores and, believe it or not, water stores (Phountain) where people bring gallon jugs and buy alkeline water from the store's ionizer. It costs a little more than $1 a gallon. I looked into it a while ago - wondering if there was any scientific evidence to back it up. None. Zip. Zero. Zilch. The only ones saying there's medical evidence are the advertisements for it. My SIL, who used to work at a health food store, says that if you begin with highly alkeline water you can actually feel sick from it. Great. (She didn't buy-into a lot of the healthfood store's hype - grass juice shots, etc.)

I'd love to try it - but never got around to it. Let us know if you end up trying it! But I wouldn't buy the machine - I'm sure there are places around you that you can buy the water and see what you think.

Hi S.,

Bottom line, cancer cannot live in an alkaline environment. Neither can other major diseases. There are water sources that are naturally alkaline but not really here in the US. Some brands of bottled water advertise themselves as alkaline. Kangen is the most popular product to alkalize water. My mother-In-law has one as well as several friends. I've heard anywhere from $1200 to $5000. Most have payment plans too...
