Does anyone know of a statistic regarding you second birth and water breaking?
My water broke in the middle of the night with my son and I was wondering if that puts me in a higher percentage to happen again?

I know only 10% of labor start with water breaking, but wasnt sure how that payed out the second time around.

Thanks!

What can I do next?

My water broke at different times with all three of mine. With my first my water broke before labor started. With my second it broke just before he crowned. With my third it broke in the middle of labor. I don't think it happens the same with each pregnancy at all!

My water broke 10 days before my due date with my first and if you can believe it it was at Outback Steak House! LOL So I was really worried about that happening again when I was pregnant with my second. But my doctor told me it is pretty unlikely for your water to break on it's own and in public for that matter. He told me that just cause it happened with my first it didn't put me at any higher of a risk this time. And it didn't. So yes it could break again but probably not.

Well, every pregnancy is different but my water broke by itself with all three of mine. I was in the bathroom each time too.

Every pregnancy is different.
Your water will break when the baby is ready.
I don't think that anyone can give advice as to when and how it will break.

For some women the Dr. needs to break the water and for others it breaks when the baby is ready.

I hope it happens for you at a good time and I wish you the best.

I'm not sure about stats but my water broke at midnight after being in bed for 20 minutes with my first. I delivered 11 hr, 15 min later (3 hours of pushing).

With my second, contractions started around 2am. I decided I could start pushing at 9:30 am. My CNM checked me and said Oh let me break your water first. I delivered at 9:40 am after 3 pushes!

I think you just never know! Good luck to you.

I don't think your chances are any different in subsequent pregnancies. My water broke with my 1st baby at home, 2nd was ruptured by my doc during labor, and 3rd ruptured spontaneously while in labor at the hospital-I was almost completely dilated when it did. What was your experience with your water breaking? Did you have to be induced? I wouldn't worry(if you are), things usually work out perfectly.

My water didn't break the first time until the doctor broke it in the hospital. The second time, my water broke at 7am on my due date, while I was laying in bed! I'm not sure if there is a correlation between second pregnancies and the water breaking easier, but that seemed to be the case for me.

Your best bet for a statistic is to call your OB/GYN - I couldn't find anything on Google other than similar questions on similar parenting sites. I couldn't find anything on any credible medical websites.

But, my uneducated guess is that it's completely dependent on the pregnancy.

My first, I went into labor on my own just past 40 weeks.
My water broke with my second child. My OB's office put me off all day saying it was stress incontinence because I wasn't saturating a pad. Finally, after the 4th call, they sent me to the hospital who admitted me after confirming the water had broken, and had to induce me to prevent infection.

However, even the manual exams they give you later in pregnancy can accidentally knick the membranes and cause the water to break - happened to a former colleague where a routine visit at 38 weeks became an induction because the OB accidentally broke her water on an internal exam.

Good luck.
