I have a 2 1/2 year old son and we are wanting to put him in swimming lessons. We are new to the Keller area and need some ideas on where would be a good place to take him.

What can I do next?

The Keller Pointe does mommy & me swimming lessons for a reasonable price even if you're not a true Keller resident (ie. 76248 zip code but actually live in N. Ft. Worth) and the Ft. Worth YMCA offers them but not until summer. I just picked up the schedule for the Y at the YMCA Northpark. Lessons will start the 1st week of June. There are also Emler in Colleyville and Aqua Kids on Heritage Trace but both are somewhat expensive.

I highly recommend Aquakids. My daughter is 2 1/2 and started there when she was 20 months. She is in the weekly class. She is doing great and actually swims better than her older brother and sister. My older children both went to Keller Pointe for the 2 week class the last 2 summers. I liked it but they haven't learned to swim. Keller Pointe is very reasonably priced though. AquaKids is expensive (in my opinion).

Emler Swimming School in Colleyville. We took my daughter around that age and she was swimming under water in no time! Good luck.

Just and FYI, but if you go with Emler's, its not in colleyville anymore. It moved a few months ago (March I think) to Southlake. It's in a complex called 280 Sports. I do the mommy and me swim classes and my son loves it!

I"m not sure if there is one in Keller but I took my daughter to Aqua Kids in Flower Mound. We did the 2 week course of going everyday and they had her up and swimming faster than I thought they would. They did such a good job that I didnt have to go back for a refresher the next summer. Now she was 6 at the time so I am sure you will need a little longer for a 2yr old, but you never know.

I teach private morning lessons at the Keller Pointe or at my pool in the summer. I provide all age classes from Mommy & Me up to adult.
I also do preschool/elementary age and adult swim safety presentations.

For people who live in the 76248 zip code, but not in Keller city limits AquaKids is a great choice for swimming lessons. They are located right off I35W and Heritage Trace. I have been taking my son there for the last year and a half, he is 2 1/2 now, and they are great. For the summer they have weekly classes or camps that are classes every day for 2 weeks. Check them out!

Aqua Kids and The Keller Point are both wonderful. Aqua Kids is my personal favorite. My daughter has taken classes with both, I saw more progress as a result of Aqua Kids.

We started with the Ft. Worth YMCA but I'm not sure if they will have any this year since they moved to another location. Not sure when your son turns 3, but the Keller ISD Natatorium offers swim lessons starting at age 3. In my experience, they were far superior than the Y.

The Emler School of Swimming has taught all my daughter's children to swim. They had a location in Arlington but that got bought out for development. There is another location near Southlake or somewhere close. Google them. They have an excellent program, and a toddler class, on up through the various age levels. Many years' experience so they know what they're doing.

Hi-

I train children ages 6mos-6yrs old aquatic survival skills in The Colony (not far from you). Please feel free to check out my website for more information (www.mybabycanswim.com or the national website at www.infantswim.com).

Just to give you more information about the program: Lessons are one-on-one, Monday-Friday with each student for a maximum of 10 mins per day. It typically takes 4 to 6 weeks for your child to complete the initial lesson series.

Survival Float
Babies 6 to 14 months old are very active and surprisingly quick! The Rollback-to-Float program introduces the correct floating posture for survival as well as the skills necessary to maneuver into a float. Babies learn quickly from their physical environment. This is how they learn to crawl and walk. But water is an unforgiving environment. For this reason aquatic survival skills for the infant and toddler must be taught by a certified ISR instructor. These skills will be practiced for complete mastery even while fully clothed with diaper and shoes. All lessons are taught one-on-one for a period of 10 minutes daily, Monday-Friday. Approximate class length: 4-6 weeks.

SWIM-FLOAT-SWIM Ages 15 months to 6 years
The Swim-Float-Swim program encompasses the skills necessary for a child to reach the steps, edge of the pool or shore. This includes swimming and floating. This process begins with teaching the child breath control and the skills to turn around in the water to grab the edge. As the child becomes capable of longer swims the rollback-to-float is taught so the child can rest and breathe, and then continue swimming. This sequence can be repeated indefinitely until the child reaches safety. These skills will be practiced for complete mastery even while fully clothed with shoes and diaper for those not toilet trained. All lessons are taught one-on-one for a period of 10 minutes daily, Monday-Friday. Approximate class length: 6-8 weeks.

You can email me if you have any questions regarding the program: ____@____.com

I took my little girl to the Keller pointe the summer she turned 2 (mommy and me class) and the next summer at 3 (the child goes in without mommy). They are great for getting a child aquainted with water, learning the basics. They are 2 week classes and reasonably priced. WE are not members at the pointe. This year we are going to try the new ymca out on beach st. There classes appear to be a little more detailed. My daughter loves to go under water, and can float a little, but I am just not confident that she can swim that well on her own just yet.

We have done lessons at Keller Pointe on and off since our son was none months old. Some teachers are better than others, but we have always had a great experience there. Now that he is three he is going to do his first class without mommy later this month. We are not members, but the prices are still reasonable.

I wanted to mention that we had also taken my son to Aqua Kids. We just finished a 2 week swim camp for 3 year olds. He just turned 3.

My husband and I had actually thought it was expensive also. Now that Jackson has finished the class, we've enrolled in the next class. He enjoys our pool so much more! Totally worth the money!
