Does anyone have any info on being a childcare provide while staying home with your children?

I'd like to start watching a few children in my home to supplement our income so I can stay home with our 9 month old.

Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

What can I do next?

Hi E.,
I work with the Dept. of Children and Families and can give you the contacts you will need to obtain the licensing and requirements.

Im also trying to locate someone to watch my two grandchildren preferably in the orange Park area, as this is my home and work location. Their mom lives in Middleburg and works in Jax. (ages 18 months & 5 yrs.).

Thanks. H. H

E.,
I am also a stay at home mom, I used to be a preschool teacher for 6 years. During that time I received my CDA (child developments associates degree) My 40hours (DCF courses) and first aid and CPR, just to name a few credentials. I too am looking to supplement income so I may keep my newest addition out of child care. I started selling Mary Kay and that has helped and has also given me an opportunity to get out with the girls. If you are interrested in that let me know. On the other hand as for in home daycare, It would help for you to get your DCF classes as well. If you do not want to, that is fine, but you can not watch more than 4 children (this is including your baby) as long as you have an infant. More than five children alone is considered in home day care and you would need to get an in home daycare Director's license to keep it legal. I do not know what your experience is with children but it would help to take the DCF 40 hours courses. Where do you live? I could give you more info. I am also considering doing the same as far as taking in a couple extra children. After working in daycare I know what children need and what parents want for their children. I also know how challenging it can be. If you would like to discuss this more let me know. Good Luck!!! N.

While it sounds like it should be easy, big brother does not make it so. You will need to have your home inspected by DCF, take classes, and go through a lot to do this right (and legally). Go to www.myflorida.com/childcare look under the information for providers. It will walk you through every step in the process.

E., I am a stay at home mom as well and I also have an in home childcare business. It is not as hard to get started as people might portray.

Yes you do have to get all the right training and go through all the procedures but its only time consuming. Yet rewarding in the end. I take care of 5 children and make an approximate amount of $400 a week. You can have up to ten children including your own and make a substantial amount that would be pleasing to the finances. "It is worth it if you have the ability to take in children and like what you are doing.

I've thought about doing the same thing. Have you tried looking on jacksonville.craigslist.org? They have childcare in there for people looking. I know my sister used to watch a boy on there during the days and made decent money.
