My girlfriend loves Madison Reed products. There is a video on YouTube you can watch...it looks like it is really easy to apply.
Letting my natural hair color come out. Years of coloring has taken its toll. I'm finding my hair a nice color in the back 90% regular color and 10% gray. ...I'm good with a little gray but around my face it is solid. I'm not okay with that. I will be getting highlights/lowlights in the future as it grows out more but am interesting in getting something (not hair color) that I can brush on (powder) or crayon type colorant (non transferable) that I could use in the meantime that would be a good "between highlight" way to get by. I've seen them everywhere including Amazon but was wondering if there was a product you guys used that you were happy with. Thanks!!
Thank you!! I ordered the Madison Reed root touch up and it is awesome. Very subtle and great coverage. Won't come off until you wash it. You guys are the BEST!!!

I just use a frosting cap and pick a color then do my hair myself. I like the grey hair around my face with just a little bit of streaking in it. It looks more designer and less old lady.
I had highlights put in to make the transition from dark brown to gray less harsh. I've got about 6 inches of grown out gray hair now, and it's probably 10% gray in the back, but 80% gray in front. By now I can't wait for the highlights to grow out, because the gray is a very cool color in tone, but the highlights are brassy and yellow. There are many websites out there about going gray, so would recommend some research, especially if you have long hair. So far I'm happy with my decision though I still sometimes walk past a mirror and don't recognize myself at first :-).
I colored my hair for a good bit as well. Then I decided to let it do its thing and have been happy ever since. Yes, there is the ring of white around the face but as long as I wear it down towards my face it does not show as much. I like the streak in the top with its silvery highlights. As my daughter says I have earned the right to have them because she and her brother gave them to me.
Find something that will make you happy while you transition into the new hair highlights and such.
I am lucky that I have the silver hair that has the shiny silver color and no yellow. I will look up Madison Reed in case I change my mind.

Madison Reed is great.
They called me Cruella Deville the other day at work.
I have read about people in this predicament and find Sonja's answer to be very helpful. This seems to be the most common way to deal with it. You can get silver hair dye that blends perfectly, or go to a stylist that can match the color of the highlights to your own natural growth. Here are a couple of links with ideas on how to make the transition, and you can copy some of these or bring them to your stylist so she knows what it is you're looking for:

Even if you do find a powder or crayon, there is no way to guarantee that the streaks you color in will always be as thick and in the same locations as they were the last time you retouched them a few days prior. Maybe this isn't a concern for you, but if you want your hair to look natural, you probably don't want to have streaks that are thicker one week, and thinner next. Also, it might look awful once you swim, get caught in the rain, sweat (and even stain your clothing), not to mention the time you'd have to constantly dedicate to this every time you wash your hair, and the cost of having to constantly be buying more product.
