What about just a pink or blue background for the Skype call...then when they say 'we can't see you....only a blue (or pink) background...." you can tell why!
Alright smart ladies...
I am pregnant with baby #3 and have my anatomy ultrasound scheduled the day before Thanksgiving (which I am hosting for my DH family...both sides...which are very close!), so we have decided to keep the sex a secret until after everyone arrives for dinner! The night before, I am going to bake a cake colored either blue or pink (or white if God forbid we aren't able to find out...lol) and then frost it white with "Boy Or Girl?" written on it and then after dinner, we will cut the cake and reveal the gender! I'm very excited about this!
My one set of parents, I will just be telling them on the phone (probably will just let my oldest son tell them himself) because they don't like a lot of pomp and circumstance, so they are easy!
However, I have my mom and my step-dad (no longer married to my mom, but still a part of my life) who are both heading to Afghanistan next month (separately) and so I am trying to figure out a neat way to reveal the gender to them through either Skype or e-mail (not sure which they will have access to until next month) so I need ideas!!!
This is the last baby for us and I want this to be fun, exciting and special! Please help ladies! How did you reveal your baby gender? Any creative ideas how to tell my mom and step-dad in Afghanistan?
Thanks ladies!
EDIT: Because of the time change, both Mom and step-Dad will most likely be calling the day I have the ultrasound (hope they have Skype anyway), so they will be the only ones who know the day we find out...but that was a great idea if they don't get a chance to call until the next day. Ultrasound is at 8 am MT! And they know what day we are having it, so that will be the reason they are calling..lol!
Loving the wear the colors ideas or the note in the background...keep them coming ladies! You are giving me good ideas!!!
I think I am either going to do the signs behind me on the wall with It's A Girl or It's A Boy or I am going to mix up the letters for It's A Girl or It's A Boy and put the stickers on my shirt to see if they can unscramble the statement...lol! But keep the ideas coming! It really will depend on how much time I have after my appt before they need to call me. They are 10 1/2 hours ahead of me, so even if I get out of my u/s and appt and home by 10am, it will be 8:30 pm in Afghanistan and I don't know how late they can call or how long they can talk, so I probably will only have time to shove up the signs on the wall unless I have 2 shirts ready or buy the stickers rather than make them. Either way, it will be special. We have 2 boys and are hoping for the girl! :-) Keep more fast ideas coming ladies! Thanks!

on the front of child #1 write its a....
Then on child #2's back reveal the sex.
It gets the kids involved also.
If its on skype have it hanging in the back ground.. Its a girl/ boy and see how long until the notice it :) if its an email you could also send a picture of the kids with it in the back ground.
You could also get pink cellophane or blue cellophane and put it in front of your camera when ready - so they're seeing you pink or they're seeing you all blue.
edit: If you are one the phone. Pretend that you're losing signal with your phone and say "We're going to have a little baby _____ (silence, or pshhhhh sound) and so we are thinking a good name would be _______ (again, silence or pshhhh). I am so happy! Bob is so glad it's a _____. Aren't you? We can decorate the whole room in ______. What do you think?" They'll likely be going crazy on the other end b/c they're missing all the good info. You'll get a good laugh out of it at least. Then you can tell them that you're just messing with them, "I think it's the dramatic flare in me b/c we're having a girl." or " Sorry. I think this prank came to my brain b/c of the little boy we're going to have."
Since you are doing the cake thing, take a series of pictures or video tape the moment and email it to them so they can hear and see everyone's responses.
LOL You can tell my brain isn't working right, the first thing I thought when I saw the title of the post was Ummm an ultrasound?
If you are using Skype then how about having your family hold Boy or Girl in big letters on cards behind you? Or how about this, Have your family make signs and walk by one at a time. It's A Boy!
How about where colored glasses? Like blue tinted or pink tinted, when they ask why you can say, oh I am seeing blue or I am seeing pink. See if they get it.
Ok It's kinda corny but that's the best I got right now!
On the M&M's web site you can order M&M's in any color and put messages on them. I wanted to do this to tell my family what we were having, but one of the twins wouldn't co-operate so we didn't know what she was until the emergency C-section. (fraternal girls). M&M's can easily be shipped right from the company or shipped by you. They hold up well in shipping and don't melt.
I would email them the picture from the ultrasound with a note (if it's a boy)
Two tiny ears
One sweet little nose
Two beautiful eyes
and Yes! One of those...
(I'm not that creative- we got a card that said this when my son was born and it made me smile then too)
Not super creative, but what about sitting down in front of the computer on Skype wearing either pink or light blue shirts?
