I would get him to a doctor. That is a warning sign for a couple of issues that can be pretty serious. It could also be nothing more than he thinks it's funny, but it is something you should tell you pediatrician about.

My 30yr old husband walk on his toes and so does both my boys. I think it can be completely normal. They do walk flat footed too. Everyone walks differently and each person has their quirks.. If it's not hurting him or anyone. I don't think you should be worried.

My Gret Grandson does this when the tendons in the ankle are getting to tight, you should have your peditrician check them out, he could be hurting.

Good Morning Francesca, Our eldest son walked on his toes for a very long time. He is 34 and still does at times. His youngest Zane 19 months walks on his toes also, mostly when barefoot.
I have no idea as to why, they just do. I thought our son had problems with his feet when little but everything was fine. As is Zane's feet. Well I take that back our son has flatter arches then most people so he uses a support in some shoes. But when he is barefoot he walks more on the balls of his feet. He Never ever goes outside barefoot...lol

So for us this walking on toes at times is just normal.

God Bless you and have a Wonderful weekend

I walked on my toes for years, don't remember when I stopped, and never had any problems. It was just how I liked to walk when I was younger. It was not because it hurt to walk normal or anything. I just liked being on my toes. I have also known people that have had to have their tendons lengthened because they walked on their toes so when I saw my daughter start doing it, I ask the dr about it. He said as long as she was putting her heel down to walk on a regular basis, there was nothing to worry about. It is just when they are always walking on their toes that it becomes a problem. Lots of kids do this so don't put it on your list of things to stress about.

I have a friend who recently took her son to the dr. for the same thing! It turns out that this is just how he walks and they suggested some physical therapy to help correct the habit. Hope everything turns out ok :)

Take him to a podiatrist (foot doctor). This is pretty common, and could be as simple as exercises and/or putting some inserts in his shoes to stretch the hamstrings, or a minor surgery to lengthen them. (I've had the surgery myself, and so did my daughter at age 10.) He is uncomfortable, though not in pain, so doesn't know he is uncomfortable. The tip toe walking is unconscious on his part.

If he's recently started doing this, there's likely nothing wrong (I see kids do this all the time & they can't all have a medical condition). However, if you've noticed this since he's been a baby, he might have something wrong with his foot. I walked on my toes when I was young b/c I didn't like the feeling of walking on "dirty or messy" floors or the ground.

My niece started doing that, too when she was a toddler. At times she still does it and she just graduated high school last week!

I really don't know why they do it. If you're concerned about it, go talk to your child's doctor.

I was recently talking to a guidance counselor about this. She was telling me about 'sensory integration,' and the symptoms of problems in this area. It's the brain's way of processing the sensual environment. If there is too much or too little input into a certain system the child will behave in a certain way to stimulate or self-soothe. Walking on the toes is one of these behaviors. I don't know anything else specific, but you could try to find an occupational therapist who could give you more information.
