Walkers and Twins

I guess this is an FYI and I am asking any suggestions other than just taking away a walker. Both of my girls are getting around good on the floor but when I put them in their walkers they have started to grab hold of the other one and tip or "balance" on just one side. They think this is funny and I have tried to stop them from doing this, well it happened and my "persistant" baby tipped over last night. My hubby caught her mid fall and was able to stop her from falling completely down but she won't stop tipping herself on one side. Should I just take the walkers away completely? They do enjoy their "walker" time, I try to mix things up. One less activity...I am not sure what to do. They don't do this on anything else just the other walker and neither of my other kids tried this...this is a new one!

So What Happened?

The walkers have been givin to my neighbors they both had little ones recently, I do have an exersaucer that my 2 year old used and they do enjoy that but I am off to Babies R' Us to get some different toys that they can use to encourage walking that are safer. Thank you so much, everyone was in agreement with getting rid of them.

Hello Stepphanie...I would take it away because it's becoming threatening. However, they need thier excercise to develop thier muscles in thier legs so I would get the Baby Einstein Discover & Play Activity Center or something similar to that nature. It is made by Graco and they cannot move about with it. This way they can be moved apart and get thier excercise as well. Here is a link to Babies R Us so that you can see what it looks like. Good Luck.

In my home daycare setting, with more than one kid, the exorsaucers are great they can have snacks in them, and play but be up and see whats goin on and not feel like they restricted on the floor or in a seat.

And how about those noisy push walker thingies? (sorry my kids are 7 and 8, all these things werent around much then!) They could use them one at a time. It would be good one on one time for a parent to spend with them too! good luck!

S., according to my pediatrician, one shouldn't even own a walker because of the high incidence of concussions in babies. However, I own one and my nine month old LOVES it! So I understand what you are going through. But if they are grabbing things and tipping themselves over, I think it's time to let it go. There are so many other things out there that you can get for them such as exersaucer's and johnny jumpers that it's not worth them getting hurt in a walker. It sounds like they are ready to start walking, that alone will cause enough bumps and bruises.

I don't have twins but yeah I would take them away, it's just not worth the chance you won't be there to catch them again. What about the exosaucers? they can "walk" in circles but not get to each other. Or maybe put them in different rooms in the walkers, just not the same one together. Good luck!

hey there
i have twin boys, and we too tried walkers, and it didn't work for us either, one got the hang of it and the other just sat there. so we just gave them up. we did get that one intelitrainer like thing, it is a school house, that has a sliding seat in it, and they loved it! what we did was actually take the seat out and then they were able to pull themselves up on it without it tipping and then cruse all areound it, and they never became interested in the walkers again. so fyi, that is what worked for us!

You definitely need to take the walker away if the gals are tipping themselves. They could break a bone. Try an exersaucer...all the fun of a walker, but they don't tip.
