Does anyone know anything about vulvodynia? Experience with it? I have just been diagnosed after suffering for about a year. It has gotten more painful lately and quality of life (sex life) is non-existent because of this.

I used to have problems with this, but it has decreased over the past couple of years.

My doctor perscribed an estrogen cream that is applied topically to the area affected, and it greatly reduces the pain during and after intercourse.

Also, and I appologize for the graphic nature of this statement, I found that using lubricants like astroglide, etc., made it worse and that saliva worked much better. For me, having enough lubrication was essential.

Hang in there, I know how hard this is, but there is hope - mine is gone now.

Dear J.:

This is sometimes attributed to trauma which occured in my case as a result of surgery. It took about five years for the pain to lessen from excruciating. Now I just experience the spasms but they seem to enhance relations more than hamper things. My husband is very patient and kind and sometimes jokes about me being a perpetual virgin. But he's not complaining. It's just something where you have no choice but to have a good attitude.

Best wishes,

M.
