I am considering switching from comcasts phone service to vonage.... does anyone have Vonage? How is the service? What is your monthly bill? I know they sa 424.99 per month, but what is it REALLY after all of the various taxes and stuff?

I am going to try to keep our current phone number.... is that easy?

What can I do next?

We have Vonage and are overall happy with it. It was the cheapest plan for unlimited Canada calls (I'm from Canada, so call friends there often), and we like it that our bill is always the same ($28.99 including tax). But, it does cut out and get splotchy often, but that may be due to our internet connection rather than their service. In our location we were unable to keep our number, but most places, you can keep your old number.

We started at the $24.99 plan and downgraded to the cheaper one as we use so few minutes, and our bill is typically $18.40 a month or so. We've been customers for 3 years and Love it!! We don't get phone solicitations anymore - our number was new with Vonage so qwest doesn't know about us. Yes power outtage is bad, but then your cell phones kick in. Plus, we have a feature where any phone calls to our home # simultaneously ring my cel, so when I'm out of the house I don't miss doc calls, etc.

My husband and I have had Vonage for over five years. We've never had a phone bill that exceeded the $24.99 per month. We kept our original phone number with absolutely no problem. We can check our voicemail messages from the computer if we want to (like when we're out of town). Online Vonage keeps track of all incoming and outgoing calls with the telephone numbers - so you always have a record of who called who when. (Very useful if you're taking legal action against telemarketers.) We are both former military and have friends and family all over the country - so we have hundreds of hours of long distance usage every month.

We LOVE Vonage.

The downside: When the power goes out, your phone goes out. I suggest that you keep an "emergency phone" plugged into the phone jack. (If the power goes out you can still dial 911 even if you have no phone service.) Vonage is also not automatically hooked up through the 911 service, so you have to go online to Vonage.com and register your telephone number and address through the 911 service in your area. (This is a one time thing and only takes a few minutes.)

If you have any other questions, please let me know!

Hi,

I have vonage, and it works through your internet service. It is great. It is about $28 a month after taxes. I live in Hungary Europe, and it allows me to keep up with anyone and everyone across the US for unlimited minutes. IT ROCKS!!!! They give you a number local to where you are. But, you need to be careful with dropping comcast if it is your internet as well. You need ADSL or cable internet. I don't know about keeping the phone number, as I got a new one. But, at first you have the router to purchase--- that is is also discounted. I am ALL FOR IT!

Hope that helps!
