Volunteer Opportunties That Don't Require Me to Leave Home

I would love to donate my time to an organization such as a crisis pregnancy shelter/clinic, food bank, etc., but wouldn't be able to get a babysitter to cover for me so that I could actually GO anyplace to do such things.

Does anyone know of anything that I could do to be of service, but from my own home? (I have tried to do fund-raising for the American Lung Association, but didn't get a single reply from my neighbors.)

TIA

So What Happened?

Loving the suggestions, and can't wait to hear some more! How I wish I were crafty in any capacity, as I would LOVE to be able to make cute little handmade articles.

One thing that I have found that I am able to do is volunteer to bring toys from my son's preschool home so that I can sanitize them. The teachers LOVE it, and it really takes me no time at all.

I work fulltime and find it difficult to be away from my kids to volunteer, then my church needed help and when I said I couldn't be at the church to help they gave me craft projects to put together at home. It was great, I put all the pieces together for a project that they would be doing and turned them into the church before the event.
I bet perhaps there is a way for you to do something like that for the pregnancy care center, maybe stuffing envelopes or folding flyers, maybe mending blankets if you can sew, perhaps putting together food baskets from home? You just have to call and tell them you want to help but need something you can do at home. There is always room for volunteers!

At www.abettercommunity.com they say this about "virtual volunteering":

Virtual volunteering? If you have computer access and the necessary skills, some organizations now offer the opportunity to do volunteer work over the computer. This might take the form of giving free legal advice, typing a college term paper for a person with a disability, or simply keeping in contact with a shut-in who has e-mail.

Check it out! Good luck!
