Mamas, as we move toward winter, I'm looking for suggestions for vitamins for myself, hubby, and 3 year old, particularly to boost immunity. I don't tolerate iron or zinc well, but have had good luck with whole food-based vitamins. A friend suggested Shaklee...any thoughts?
Also, I suffer terrible eczema on my hands which is of course intensifed in winter. I've switched over to soaps and lotions with virtually nothing in them which has helped...anyone with the same problem have suggestions? Anything dietary I can change? Thanks in advance for your time!

What can I do next?

For the eczema, get a prescription steroid cream from a dermatologist. Vitamins may help, but they should not take the place of medical care.

My son gets exzema as well. The doctor prescribed 2.5% hydrocortisone cream, which has really helped. He still gets flare-ups occasionally, but the cream usually makes them go away after 2-3 applications. I don't know how much some of the other things people have mentioned cost, but hydrocortisone is fairly inexpensive, so if money is an issue at all it is especially nice. :)

Arbonne has vitamins for your whole family that are made from real whole foods. we also have body washes, lotions and creams that will help the eczema. I usually suggest our 7 day detox as well. My daughters, granddaughter, my husband and myself all suffered with eczema but do not any longer since using Arbonne products. PM me for more information.

ShakleeBaby lotion will probably clear up the eczema. It cleared it up on my son's feet in just one application.
I am a distributor and would be happy to help you with that and the vitamins that boost immunity.
I started using the supplements about 17 years ago and they literally saved my life. That is why I became a distributor.

Melaleuca has the best vitamins and lotion for eczema, IMO!! =) I've never been happier since I started using their products (4 years ago). Their lotion is the best on the market and their vitamins absorb well because of a special patent they use. It's worth looking into. Seriously! =) HTH

I've had eczema on my hands all my life and my newest dermatologist told me that a little vaseline (or another greasy type lotion) on it helps. I tried it and man it clears it up real fast. Try that at night with socks on your hands (if you can stand it). It should help.

I know eggs make my toddler have eczema flair ups. He can tolerate eggs maybe a couple times a week, but if he eats them every day he gets "flair ups". one of my twins has eczema really bad. he was prescribed a ointment that works wonders, like amazingly so. it seems like you would like to go more natural though so I wont push that info, but if you want to know just pm me. We used the Aveeno oatmeal bath, and it says in big letters for eczema on it for the twins and it works pretty well also.

For the eczema, it's most likely a reaction to a food you ARE eating, rather than something lacking in your diet. Try getting tested for food allergies and food sensitivities (IGg reactions).

Try the isotonix line. It's a powder that when mixed with water becomes the same pressure as your blood, sweat and tears. It absorb immediately into your system. You receive so much more than if you were to take a pill. The kids line is awesome too. I reccommend OPC3s to boost the immune system or Ultimate Aloe. The kids will love the strawberry kiwi aloe.
The OPC3 will not only boost your immune system but it will fight all free radicals. Fighting free radicals is the first thing your immune system does. If the OPC3s are fighting the free radicals then it frees up your immune system to fight other sicknesses. Therefore it will help the eczema.
:)
Another really cool thing.....because it's a powder, you can mix all your vitamins into one custom cocktail. Take one drink in the morning and you have all the vitamins you need. Customized especially for you.

We use Lysine + for our immune boost. It also takes sickness away quickly if you do get a cold. I started taking it after a cold I got when I was teaching and when the H1N1 came around I did not get it.

My husband use to get sores on his body too and we found, through a long arduous process of specialists due to DR's not knowing anything, that he is highly allergic to wheat and gluten. Once we kept that out of his diet then he cleared up and does not have any issues unless he gets cross-contaminated. So if you are willing, I would try taking out the major allergens in food and slowly replacing them until you find out what food you are allergic too. Dairy, Nightshades, and Wheat are huge causers of Eczema and Psoriasis along with other issues they can cause. My husband did a test to see why people in general don't look for food allergens first and found out that if you look up the food allergy it will list all the things your body will do to tell you that you are allergic to that food, however if you look up your specific ailment, there is absolutely no mention of food allergies. Hope this helps... and if you do take out food allergens and find it a specific type of food then once you get the hang of it, it is pretty easy to deal with. My entire family is Wheat and Gluten Free. Just much easier to cook and deal with and we are all healthier because of it.

FIsh oil does amazing things for my skin (nails & hair) - I have alligator skin (or I should say I used to). L-lysine is also for tissue health - I use it for mouth ulcers & acne. Aveeno products are good for external use.

My husband, kiddos and I are taking a nutritional supplement that has helped us with our immune systems and allergies. It has also helped my son's skin, and he has eczema too. In addition, it has helped me with my allergies, headaches and migraines. Needless to say, we are thrilled with it! If you'd like more info, let me know!

Hi K.,

Ezcema is absolutely systemic and comes from a lack of nutrition in your body. Whether you are eating good food or not is not always an issue, the issue is you are not absorbing the nutrition from it or something is contradicting it. I have heard that Shaklee is a good product. I personally use Melaleuca brand vitamins as they are guaranteed to absorb and they do not create free radical activity. My niece's ezcema went away within a couple of weeks of starting on them. Their Renew intensive care therapy lotion has gotten rid of my 93 year old Dad's ezcema and psoriasis. His skin looks like a baby's bottom after years of suffering...

MOST vitamins are worthless or even dangerous as they cause free radicals and that is the cause of major disease and cancers. Juice Plus has always been touted as good as well but Dr. Mercola has had some recent input of whole food supplements (I like most of what he says but don't agree with him on everything.) No one supplement will help ezcema specifically. It is an overall health issue. If you want specific info on the vitamins I mentioned I can emial you some or send you a link to look into specifics.

Hope this helps!
M.

Hi--
There's a few things you can do. First, eczema is an outer manifestation of an allergy, sometimes environmental, but usually to food. Most often the allergy is to dairy (particularly casein) or to gluten (found in wheat, rye, barley, and most oats (unless they are labeled gluten free). Second, I'm sure you do lots of water. Also add omega-3 fatty acids to your diet. Third, put either borage oil or evening primrose oil directly onto the spots of eczema. The GLA and omega 9's in it will help to heal the skin. Fourth, do not use any kind of chemical cleanser or lotion. We have a rule in our house---if you can't eat it, don't put it on your skin. Anything you put on the skin absorbs into the body within 7 seconds. I took the liberty of looking up your grocery stores up there---it looks like you have a place called bamboo market. They sounds like they would have some good suggestions for you. Safe companies with products that are pure include Dr. Bronner's soaps, earth mama angel baby, and Badger.
I would avoid shaklee vitamins---they are not very pure and definitely not whole food-based. Also, while many recommend melalueca products, they, too are not very well made. Proponents of it will argue against me. My information comes from my girlfriend who is a biochemist and does toxicology research for a living. She despises melalueca products.
As for immunity, the omega 3 fatty acids will assist with that. Also vitamin D. Elderberry is great for flu symtpoms, echinacea for bacteria based colds, raw honey for allergies and bacterial infections, olive leaf for viruses. Vitamin C always helps. There are others, too. Again, I'm guessing that store would be able to assist you with more suggestions. I love a company called historical remedies that makes homeopathic lozenges. Pick up drops made by them are great for when you are getting sick. Also calm drops. And Bach's Flower Remedies "Rescue remedy" is also great for battling the stress that leads to sickness. I could go on and on and on, but that should get you started. If this resonates with you and you'd like more information, I'm happy to help further.
Good luck!
J.

I have eczema but I have not had a flair up in over a year. The pharmacist recomended vitamin E supplements. The year prior I had ezceme all over my body and had to use the lots of hormone cream to clear it up many times. Get yourself a water soluble vitamin E supplement so the excess vitamin will not build up in your body.
