Hello! I am currently taking a multivitamin. I have heard that taking a b12 supplement helps with PMS, and I need all the help I can get in that area. But my question is, the multivitamin I take has 125% daily value of b12. If I take another supplement is that too much? Because my current vitamin is not helping with the pms at all. So this is the first step in trying to correct my raging problem....lol. If this doesnt help, Im going to seek professional help. =)

What can I do next?

you may have PMDD, google it...it is a quite a bit more intense than regular PMS. i have it and know of a few others as well. you can try a pill Yaz that helps, or there are a few anti-depressants that are approved by the FDA, including zoloft, which i take and boy does it make a HUGE difference. i used to feel like the devil for two weeks each month and it just sucked!!

Good Morning Mo, I take 2 Vitamin B Complex daily for my joint pain in my thumbs. It works a lot better then Celebrex for sure and a lot less expensive. In fact I have only a tad of discomfort NO pain at all.

A friend's daughter has horrible Migraines ( about 3 wks worth when she starts her period) she started taking the B Complex and now her migraines last one day if at all.

Give it a try Molly, I think it will help a lot
God Bless

I'm not sure if this will help you, but I have been taking this stuff called EstroSense it is made by Lorna Vanderhaeghe (you can get it at Natures Pantry, etc.) Anyways, I had very heavy and painful periods (and not to mention VERY irritable while having them...well before and during) and now they are not a big deal at all. Lorna explains that hormones are the reason periods get crazy....high/low estrogen, high/low progesterone, etc. Since, you have had a baby recently hormones are probably your cause for the PMS. Anyways, these herbs will not effect your b vitamins and your b vitamins are not the only vitamin that runs your body. Before you mess with vitamins either seek professional help or look at certain herbs, but make sure you do your research. There are a lot of vitamins out there that can cause even bigger problems if you take too much. Also, not to get too personal, but if you happen to be breastfeeding I would say go straight to the professional. Good Luck! :)

This was what my gyno told me to do:

60mcg B6/day
300 or 3000IU I can't remember - Vit E per day
Reduce caffiene
High protien
Lots of water
More exercise

I was actually ticked off when his nurse called me with this formula because I wanted drugs, my PMS was so bad. She said to give it 2-3 months and if it didn't correct it, then call and they would do something else. Well, it not only worked, it rebalanced my whole body. I haven't had PMS since. It worked really well, and I feel great. Dr. Feuille later told me for some reason women in this area are extremely low on B6 and he doesn't know why, perhaps the environment? But the B6 supplementation is paramount. Good luck!!

I don't know much about the B12 vitamin, I do know that when I was pregnant, my doctor told me that I could take up to 6 tablets of B6 daily to help with morning sickness. I do know though that I used to have awful PMS before I had my children. I used to take Premisyn (sp?) and it is made by Midol. This was like a wonder drug for me, and I can't find my old bottle to see if it had B12 in it or not. I hope this helps!

You should check out Arbonne's Natural Hormone Balancing Cream... Prolief! It saved my life! :) It is made from plants and is a bio-identical progesterone cream. It really helped with my PMS and many other quirks I used to have.

I can send you some info on it, or you can check it out on my website... http://missiewyatt.myarbonne.com under the shop online tab and then click on the "balance" picture.

You may not be absorbing all the b-vitamins in your multivitamin. If it's a cap or pill, then definately not. I have been using Isotonix supplements for 5 years with wonderful results. Isotonix is a powder that you mix with water for 95% absorption. Since you know you need extra b vitamins, the b-complex I take is also Isotonix. I use 2 capfuls everyday with 4oz of water and did this throughout my last pregnancy along with my Isotonix multivitamin. B vitamins help with a lot of health issues, and don't worry that you are taking too much because some of us need extra B. Just be sure to take b vitamins together for added benefit. The Isotonix products I take can be bought online at www.marketamerica.com/2bewell

Take care,
V.

The RDA standards are just the minimum from keeping you from getting a deficiency disease. Ex: the 100% RDA for Vitamin C is just to keep you from getting Scurvy. This is not the level recommended for optimal health, it's often 10X more than that, especially since our food supply is so deficient in nutrients b/c of big agra.

B Vitamins are great with helping mood. You want to take them all together though, the whole B Complex as found in nature, how God designed. Also, some vitamins are just junk vitamins. There are no gov't requirements for testing to make sure they are properly absorbed or even if it's the right form of the vitamin. Ex: supplementing with elemental iron as opposed to naturally occuring iron (like in leafy greens) will make you constipated.

There are other supplements that would greatly improve your symptoms. Shaklee's GLA, Osteomatrix, Vita Lea

We only take Shaklee supplements. I wouldn't ingest anything else or let my son. Shaklee is the only company to have a 20 year study that proves their customers are healthier than people who take other supplements or people who take none at all. www.landmarkstudy.com

I also take Arbonne's Prolief. That is a great help for balancing!

Maybe what you are dealing with is more related to you jsut having a baby 5 months ago than to PMS. You might want to make a call to your GYN and discuss your issues with them, maybe they can make a perfect suggestion for you.

Hey Mo,
I had the same problems with my hormones. My doctor did some tests and said that my Vit D levels were actually low. The is pretty common these days with the amount of sunscreen you use. You could try to use a Vit D supp and see if it helps. My doctor recommended 2,000milgrams a day. You could try that and see if it helps. Good luck!

My Avatar nurse suggested Dong Quai and Isophenolic rings if you are not breast feeding. Here is some more info on B12:"With B12, the human body seems to store several years worth of B12 so it is extrememly rare for someone to be deficient in it UNLESSS they have anemia or low iron levels, with this it is not absorbed in the intestinal tract as it should be. I would just make sure you are getting the RDA. They say anywhere from 2.4 micrograms to 6 micrograms is the dietary reference intake amount. I'd stick around the 3 microgram area and then try and get it in the foods you eat- Some of the richest sources of dietary B12 include liver and other organ meats, muscle meats, shellfish, eggs, fish, cheese and milk. This will also help your fatigue and low energy. I think once you quit breast feeding it will help also, this is very draining and it drains your nutrients as well." Hope this helps!
