Visiting San Antonio

We are planning on visiting San Antonio, particularly Sea World, in June. Can anyone give me tips on where to stay (near Sea World so that we can take breaks for naps etc., and not too expensive), tricks on visiting the park and how many days we should plan on being there? I know there's a water park so we might do that on day 2. We have a 6 year old and a 3 year old. Also, do you know of any websites that offer coupons?

Thanks!

visit sanantonioattractions.com, there are some great deals and recommendations. The riverwalk is very expensive, try expedia or hotwire those site can prodably get you a good rate. Also seaworld's wesite may have some specials. I used to live there and now it's a great place to visit. The water park is Splashtown USA, it's right off the highway. GL

E.,

We are actually headed to San Antonio this coming weekend for a 3-day/2-night stay. I can't give you any tips about visiting Sea World yet. I can tell you that if you purchase your tickets online at Sea World's website, it's only $5 more per person to buy a two-day pass than it would be to buy a ticket for one day. Oh, and the second ticket does not have to be used right away. It can be used anytime before the end of 2008.

We are staying on the Riverwalk rather than near Sea World because we were actually able to get a cheaper hotel there. We used Priceline.com for that. You can name the price you are willing to pay for a hotel, and participating hotels can decide if they are willing to accept that price. Don't worry about getting stuck in some 1-one star hotel 20 miles from Sea World though. You specify the rating and location you want. We low-balled our offer, and the Hyatt Place on the Riverwalk actually accepted it.

Hope that helps!

I love San Antonio! The Riverwalk is lots of fun. If you have time, take boat ride! We did it when my son was 2, and he loved it! Also, either on your way down or your way back, the Caverns just north of the city are lots of fun! I forgot what the name of them were, but you'll see the billboards for it all down I35. Right next door to it is a wildlife park where you drive through and feed the animals. I haven't done that one yet, but we've been to the one like it in Glen Rose, and that's always lots of fun!

We just got back from San Antonio last week! We loved where we stayed, comfort suites off of 410. I think the address was Alamo Downs? It was affordable, new, had an indoor pool and included breakfast. There were plenty of places to eat nearby as well. We went on weekdays and used our coupon code from the Entertainment passbook. With this, it came to $107/night. 410 does have construction, but for the most part where you will be you will avoid it. Plus, its only 5 miles from Sea World. Literally 2 exits down. Even though you don't need it, I will say they also had portable playpens for the younger ones to sleep in. Since it is a suite, the bedroom was separate from the "living", with each having its own tv. Since I have a 15 month old, this was perfect because we could shut the door and put her to sleep early while we stayed up watching tv. I actually think the downtown isn't as "safe" as it used to be and a friend who is from San Antonio recommended we not stay there. Instead we just visited it for the day. (And I was shocked by the amount of homeless people). I too would recommend 2 days at Sea World if you are planning on doing the waterpark. Go the the HEB grocery store when you get there and you can get a 2 day pass there at a discount rate. Bring one of those water bottles spray with a fan since it can get hot! Have fun :)

We're going this weekend and staying at the Radisson. It's across the street from Sea World and they have a free shuttle so you don't have to hassle with/pay for parking.

I recommend you go to ebay and search for sea world san antonio coupons. I found some discounts that looked great, but was too late and they won't get here before we leave. We're doing the 2 days for the price of one sale on the sea world site.

I would plan on two days since the water park will be open. We went for one day in April a couple of years ago and did not get around to seeing everything, and the water park was not even open at the time. The Beluga show was really neat, and of course, you have to see the Shamu show. We missed the water skier show (my daugher wouldn't leave the kids play area), but it looked neat. There are lots of smaller rides for your three year old and a whole area devoted to younger kids.
Eat before you go. The food is expensive and the lines at all of the food places were crazy, even in April. I imagine it will only be worse in June. There is a bakery to the left of the fountain after you enter (if I remember correctly). They had pretty good coffee. They also had pastries, muffins, etc. The prices were not outrageous and the line was non-existent first thing in the morning. We got hungry, but just fed my daughter goldfish and stuff and went out to eat afterwards.
As far as where to stay, just remember that the Riverwalk is a fairly large distance from Sea World, but the prices to up the closer you get to Sea World, so the savings might be worth a little bit farther of a drive.

We have gone to San Antonio/Sea World several times and love it. There are not a lot of hotels close to Sea World. We have always stayed near the River Walk. There is a La Quinta or a Hampton Inn right by the River Walk. Get two day tickets to Sea World and you can do the park one day and the water park the next. You can go to sanantonioattractions.com and get coupons for all attractions in San Antonio. I called the Tourism bureau once and they have an automated line and will send you coupons/maps in the mail. It was great. They also have a very nice zoo. Hope you have a a great time.
