I am in search of educational videos for my 19 month old. He likes Blues Clues, but there are only 2 on the market and we have them both. NO BARNEY but anything else is pretty much fair game. He's not really into elmo or sesame street either, but I can handle some of those if you have a really good one you'd like to suggest.

My kids love these, and its very creative and educational.
Even my 6 year old still loves these. And its not overly "hyper" or loud or irritating in that sense. LOL

All the best,
Susan

Hey J.,
YEAH FOR YOU!!! We don't have "TV" in our house. We have A TV, but we don't actually use it for public television (we don't have cable or anything...we even use antenas! and yes, we live in a big city)
I purchase or get from the library what I want my kids to watch. Shows like:
Magic School Bus,
CyberChase,
Zaboomafoo,
Our Planet (or practically ANYTHING by National Geographic),
Arthur,
Or pretty much anything educational from the Library. He can learn about almost ANYTHING he desires to know about.

My almost two year old twins LOVE Baby Einstein. We got all of them (liek 25 videos) for $50 on ebay. I usually watch them with them, and I really think they are great. Good luck!

My 2 year old LOVES Blues Clues, and also Max & Ruby, Little Bill, The Backyardigans, Diego, etc. The video that I recommend to EVERYONE though is the Leapfrog Letter Factory video. I found it at Walmart for like $9.99 and after watching it once or twice a day for two weeks and she now knows ALL THE LETTERS AND THEIR SOUNDS! I didn't do anything except press play and now my kid is smarter and more prepared for school (long ways off, but still). I also have the Leapfrog Talking Words Factory, which is about putting letters together to make words, and I truly believe that is how my older daughter learned to read and spell. It's a fun video that they ASK to watch, and then they learn stuff. Very cool.

My children were raised without videos, or, for that matter, without TV until they were much older. I think children this age should be playing, being read to, sung to, danced with, etc.

However, my real interest in your post is your comment that your son is bi-racial. I have four adopted bi-racial chidren, (they are now adults) and two of my step-grandchildren are bi-racial, and if you ever want to discuss that, you can email me at ____@____.com.

My son who will be 2 next week loves Blues Clues. Do you have the shapes and colors one my son really like that one. He is now looking for shapes everywhere we go. I have purchased several of the older videos on ebay, craigslist, amazon, and local thrift stores. He also really likes Baby Einstein, he just got the number nursery about a month ago and can now count to 3. He goes around the house counting everything. Good Luck!
