I have a 6yr. old mix (chow/retriever) who was just diagnosed with epilepsy and has never had seizures until a day ago of which she suffered from 5 grand mal seizures. My vet in Plano put her on phenobarbital and was unable to tell me the cause of her sudden diagnosis of epilepsy. I would like to get a 2nd opinion and would like some referrals of veterinarians in Frisco who are reputable and knowledgeable. Thank you.

So What Happened?

Thank you all for your responses. Unfortunately my dog got worse and was having a seizure every hour and I had to take her to a doggie neurologist who said she either has meningitis or a brain tumor. They recommended doing a CT-Scan but we couldn't afford it so we are going to treat her at home and make her as comfortable much as possible and give her plenty of love. If her symptoms becomes worse, we will have to put her down since we don't want her to suffer. This has been so sudden and so devastating for us since we've only had her for 6 years and is part of the family. Please keep Kima in your prayers. Thank you.

Hi K.,

I swear by Stonebriar Vet Clinic off Legacy just north of 121. I had been taking my cat, whom they were able to diagnose with high blood pressure and kidney disease and provide very good care for her. Just last Friday, we had to put her to sleep and they were just wonderful about it. They were the only vets she was comfortable around. The staff is amazing and true animal lovers. They all remembered Samantha's name and would talk lovingly to her everytime we came in. My parents took their dog to them and eventually she had heart problems and they cared for her as well. Their boarding facility is really impressive, and they offer amazing grooming services for cats and dogs:

I have the most awesome vet in Frisco that was referred to me by a "pet rescue" lady who has taken tons of animals to him. His name is Dr. Greg Bobo(yes, that's his name). The nicest guy and really cares about your pet.

My pomeranian also has seizures and was on phenobarbitral but is now on potassium bromide. He is doing great. My vet also said that they don't know why he has the seizures and testing would be very expensive. My sister's pom had the same thing and her vet said the same thing. So I think your vet is shooting straight. My vet is in PetSmart at Banfield if you want to try them.

Hi, I live in The Colony and have a Retriever/Lab mix who was diagnosed with epilepsy a couple of years ago. However, she has never had a grand mal seizure. The name of our vet is Dr. Darbro. North Colony Animal Clinic - their number is ###-###-####. They are a great bunch of people there. What I found out was that epilepsy is common in retrievers and doesn't usually show up until they are about 3, which is exactly when Princess had her first seizure. Keep me posted. M.
