Hi I need to have 2 LARGE veins in my legs "collapsed" according to what the doctor explained woud happen. Just looking to hear from anyone who has had this done...He explained how there was a main vein that pumped blood to your heart and the one he would be callapsing was off of that...and it just seems "so close" ....my sister has had it done and says its no big deal....just needing some further reassurance... thanks!
He says that he will run a "line" from my ankle into the vein and run it all the way up through my entire leg to top of thigh and wen he gets to the part where the vein he will be collapsing meets the main vein (going to the heart) that he then pushes a button on the end of the "line" and something comes out of the end of it and burns it causing it to collapse. wow I dont feel so anxious to get it done although I would LOVE my legs to feel better.

What can I do next?

I just had it done (one leg almost 3 weeks ago, the other leg just last week) and it's too early for me to tell you about final results. It will look worse before it looks better (lots of bruising). I had both the laser ablation and the injection therapy for the smaller varicosities done at the same time. It definitely hurts more than they say it does....most of the pain is in the first 48 hours, and after that it gets better each day. You have to wear the stocking for a week straight (only taking it off to shower) and I took advil around the clock to help with pain and swelling. I can update later about my final results, but I think it will be awhile before you can really see the difference (they told me up to 6 months for 100% recovery/healing.....but typically about 3 months before I will totally see the end result. Hopefully it was worth it to go through! I'm only 32, but mine were actually painful, esp. after exercising. That symptom has already gone away, though I can still see the veins through the bruising from the procedure. If you can wait until the Winter to have it done, I would recommend it. Wearing the stocking (which is solid white) with pants on top of it in the middle of the Summer while trying to chase around my two toddlers has been HOT! Thankfully, most insurance companies will cover the laser procedure (but won't cover the injections). If your veins are a certain size (based on an ultrasound) or if you are symptomatic (having pain) than most insurance companies will cover it. Good luck! I'm sorry I'm not more help!

My mom had the procedure done to remove varicose veins in her legs and spider veins. It worked, she had them done several times in her life because they return.

She didn't suffer any ill effects, she did need to wear a certain type of stockings afterward and do lots of walking. That was good for her health!

Good luck!

I had some vericose viens removed in one leg about 3 years ago. It definetly helped. I still occasionally wear compression stockings while walking long distances to help the blood flow and hopefully i wont get those viens again. It was an outpatient surgery that went quickly. The recovery was very painful. I think it was almost 2 weeks or so before I was really walking around good again. My sis-in-law had it done in both legs and was down for almost 4 weeks, that was probably about 10 years ago. Good luck
