Vasectomy Reversal and Pregnancy After 40 - Grapevine,TX

My husband had a vasectomy after our second son was born about 7 years ago. Now we're thinking about trying for another baby although we know the odds are uncertain since I'm 44 now. I still have regular periods, though, so I'm hopeful that I might be able to do it again at least one more time!

Any post-40 moms out there with any advice for us? And does anyone know of a good doctor to perform the vasectomy reversal?

Thanks for your advice,

M.

So What Happened?

Thanks for the responses! I had my FSH and some other key fertility indicators tested and found that I am still in prime breeding condition! We found a vasectomy reversal specialist in Tucson who sounds pretty promising and we still need to call the doctor who was recommended here from South Texas before we decide how to proceed. Adoption is still a possiblity as well. We will probably get the reversal and then move ahead with both plans and just see how God decides He wants to work it out. I appreciate your help and your prayers, Mamas!

I would encourage you to get your FSH tested as well before you go too far. While it is not a definitive go/no go - it is an indicator of your fertility level. If your FSH is high - combining that with a Vas Reversal will really reduce your odds. You would likely need medical intervention to get pregant.

That being said - if you have a low FSH - then your odds may not be too bad.

As far as the reversal - I think Dr. Bush at Medical Center of Plano is supposed to be good. (he specializes in men's fertility issues)

Good luck with your decision.

M. - I hope you don't mind me asking the below.. you sounded friendly in your msg.

I'm 42, have hypothyroid & bad progesterone and testosterone. I am finally on the right dose of Armour and bio-dentical hormones and feeling human again. I haven't testing my ovulating recently however I'm feeling positive. My question to you, smart Mummy, is what can I eat or take, to up my odds of a healthy 3rd pregnancy....?

Thank you for reading this..

Hi M.

I don't know anything about vasectomy reversal, but I am over 40 and would like to have another baby. I just saw your post. Who is your OBGYN? I have had a hard time finding one who is open to an over-40 pregnancy.

Best of Luck to you!
