Hi, Mommas.

Just wondering if you all had any fun Valentine's Day traditions in your household...especially ones for little ones.

Thanks!

Hi K.-

This "V" day...I took a BUNCH of candie canes and reheated them...(slow oven...225) and bent them into hearts! A mom here may have given the tip...I cannot remember...

But...SO COOL!!

I wish I had seen this years ago...although my teens are fascinated as well...

Darn it!! Wish...(for once) I had more leftover candy canes!!

Best luck!

We definitely have some Valentine's Day traditions in our house. It tends to be more of a family event than a romantic event. My husband always buys my daughter 1 rose for Valentine's Day which lights up her day. Instead of going out, we cook a gourmet dinner together, decorate the table all swanky, and the kids act like waiters for Mom and Dad. We get a "romantic" dinner and they have fun pretending to serve us.

We always try a new Valentine's Day inspired dessert recipe, too. This year we made Valentine's Day Heart Shaped Brownies. (We made them a little early this year so that I could put the instructions up on my blog.) If you are in the mood to spend some fun time in the kitchen with your kids, you can see how the kids and I made ours here - http://www.chocolatecakemoments.com/2012/family-fun-ideas...

Great topic! Thanks for starting the discussion since it's fun to see how everyone celebrates.

A few years, I made a meatloaf.... shaped into a heart..... with catsup on top, with green pepper slices spelling out I Love You....

The kids thought it was cute!

(That was a LONG time ago... now they would think I was just being sappy....)

I have a 2yo who is just starting to get into holidays, so while I have never done much for V-day, I got some things this year to start some new traditions.

1. Target had these little mailboxes in their $1.00 section (white, red, and blue) so I bought one for our DS and one for mommy and daddy. Next weekend, we'll put our names on them and decorate them w/stickers.

2. We're going to make valentines to put in each other's boxes - just colored paper, ribbon, stickers and crayons.

3. I bought bakeware (also @ Target) that has 6 heart-shaped muffin cups, so I'll do our favorite muffin mix and make them.

I hope it goes over well! Good luck to you!

We do something new and fun as a family. We go to a nice dinner - but also add in a show or an event. Thinking this year to do the Spy Museum in DC...followed by dinner in National Harbor with the fountain show at the Gaylord :).

My hubby and I have had the tradition for a long time, before kiddos even, of making Chicken Parmigan at home. We eat out quite a bit anyway and we refuse to go out on Valentines Day. My boys are now big fans of our tradition!

Nope, we each take a little cash and buy ourselves something we want and call it a day! Last year I got perfume, this year I am getting UD Naked2!

I will decorate the kitchen w/red, white & pink ballons.
Some red streamers.
Buy some heart shaped cookies.
I have the little mailbox from Target that my son picked out & has
already decorated w/stickers.
I will make a nice dinner (steak, mashed potatoes etc).
I have a little something for both kids & hubby. Nothing much.
I may buy myself some tulips @ the grocery store (sometimes hubby does that for me).
I might even buy myself a silver charm on Amazon if I can find a cheap one!
Happy Valentine's Day!

A few years ago I:
bought chocolate covered fortune cookies
wrote hubby a poem
lit candles at the dinner table
dressed in red (sweater or dress)
found funky cheap things for hubby & I to do: game cards (cheap @ Walgreens) etc.
