Cut out the sugar and sweet stuff. If her glucose levels are too high yeast will grow. Consider food allergies - I know it sound crazy - but it's worth a shot - dairy, citrus or other acidic foods like tomotoes, oranges. Have her blood suger tested for diabetes - go to an endocrinologist. My FIL had frequent yeast infections in his ears - the MD said they're more prevalent in diabetics. Good luck!

What detergent do you use to wash clothes? My Mom's entire family gets raw red skin from Tide, Cheer, and a host of others.

you are living my life on this one. I have battled issues with this in my 6 year old daughter for 2 years now! We have done everything you talk of and nothing...we tested for lactose intolerance, high blood sugar, etc, etc...until I changed to a female pediatrician last year! My daughter has a little issue down there that isn't a deformity or anything, her parts are just a little higher up and therefore urine can get caught in the "pocket" a bit more. then it irritates the skin. Sorry, I am trying to be discreet, you can Privite message me for more info if you want. This all might seem a little extreme, but its working. Here is what we have to do:

1. Baths are better because the water gets up there and gets it clean. NO BUBBLES! I was shocked when her dr. said that, because I had been told NO baths! But it does help...for ease of schedule, I do bath one night and shower the next. clean every day.

2. Dove sensitive skin soap, not baby wash. Even baby wash has sents in it that can irritate the skin.

3. Clean panties in the morning and clean panties before dinner. Sounds extreme, but its got to stay dry down there. I dont know what time you get home, but I have her change her school clothes when we get home including panties.

4. Diaper cream, not medicine. It works great. I actually just had my doctor recommend it for adults too for the occassional irritation (sorry if TMI).

5. Acidophilus milk.

6. Use Periwash spray in between bathing. Its normally for people with incontinance. I got it from a friend who has a disabled daughter. It works wonders! Just spray on her parts and wipe clean. They also sell wipes which might be a good idea. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000GCRXQQ/ref=pd_lpo_k2...

Does she eat or drink a lot of juice or citrus?

If so, that can cause redness/soreness down there.
As a child, my sister and I would get like that when we ate too many oranges (which we loved) or drank too much juice, or too much acidic things.
My Mom and Grandma called it "red bottoms".

Did they do a culture?

Is she maybe rubbing herself? Some kid do that.

You also said she 'had' a yeast infection but the med didn't work. SO then, what needs to be done, is... she needs to use another yeast cream with a different active ingredient in it. Our Pediatrician recommends one with Clotrimazole in it, for example. They are not all the same. Yeast creams, each brand, has different active ingredients in it.
There are 7-day or 3-day types. You apply the cream, externally. Not inside her. The Clotrimazole is what I used with my kids.

I suspect... that her Yeast Infection never went away.

all the best,
Susan

also, all cotton underwear, you prob already know that.. .
additionally, how about pure aloe vera, it's very healing.... I am not talking about lotions with aloe in them, but the actual stuff. you can buy it at a health food store.. refrigerate after open.. I would suggest after her bath, using a cotton ball and coating the area. let it dry completely before putting on jammies.. also, try a tiny test area first to make sure there are no adverse effects..
as an adult, I use capryl whenever I get a yeast flair up... but not sure how that might affect a child.. I take a tablet and drinks lots of water and sure enough, the yeast goes away.... maybe they have actual cream?it might be worth looking into..

best of luck

Is she wet, maybe, from discharge? And that could be rubbing and causing irritation.
My first thought was yeast infection, too. There are several different meds out there, maybe a different one?

Ouch - poor thing. I might try anothe doctor too. Do you know what causes it? Can you let her run around naked at home a bit - or w/ a long dress or t-shirt to get some air there in case it's moisture... Good luck and hope she finds relief soon.

I am a believer in airing out whenever possible. I've had issues in the past and I use the bhair dryer to make sure I am dry down there before dressing, etc. I go commando whenever possible.

That said, how are your daughter's pants fitting? I wear tight skinny jeans and sometimes they irritate me down there. Everything is fine after a little airing out and switching jeans for a day or so. Just a thought.

My daughter and I also drink DanActive daily without fail and I've noticed a huge difference with occurances with the both of us since we started DanActive.

I wouls also consider another Dr.

Good luck..

You've received some great advise/remedies already K.! Here is my experience: when my daughter was youger and got diaper rash/irritation a bath with simple Baking Soda did wonders! Baking Soda is a natural "base" to negate acidity...it's also very inexpensive! Just sprinkle a good amount in the bath water & let her soak in it for about 10-15 mins before bathing. Also I agree w/the other moms about weraing no panties at all when at home AND while sleeping, to let things air out. I have also had good success using Diaper Rash cream on my almost 8 yr old dghtr on occasion because apparently wiping well takes too much time! LOL If none of these posts help I also agree you may want to find a female pediatrician and go see a Dermatologist. Keep up the great job as a mom searching for the best information from this wonderful network of experts who have "been there/done that".

My 6 yo was having lots of uti's/yeast infections/ etc... I changed her soap to DIAL. This seemed to help alot because it is an antibacterial soap.

A great antibacterial soap (if you decide to try one) is Cetaphil antibacterial. I think it only comes in bar form.

Baths with a cup of organic apple cider vinegar are very good for sensitive skin.

You didn't mention if she takes probiotics everyday. She needs them. Also juice makes alot of kids red. Take it out of her diet and see if things don't calm down.

This may sound weird, but are you using nylon or nylon tricot (the slick, silky, shiny stuff) underwear for her? If so, try switching to all cotton and see if that helps. I have the same thing, have since i was her age and started school where you're in formal clothes (not play clothes) and in a seat most of the day, holding the material next to the skin. It isn't really an allergy, so the doctor probably won't find it thru testing. Let me know if it works!
