So What Happened?

I wanted to than keveryone for their reponces. Now I will tell you my story. My oldest daughter is now 10 and She has reacted to 2 vaccines. I did not give her any til she was 2 1/2 because I have done extensive research on the reactions that vaccines can cause and the older they are and the stronger nad healthier they are the better they can fight off the toxins that are in vaccines. Her first reaction was mild however the second was almost fatal. She had had an antibiotic shot earlier in the day that she recieved the vac, and by the next day we were in the hospital for 3, The Dr. said had she not had the antibiotic in her system the infection would have spread more rapidly and would have cut off her airway and she would have died. Kyla does have a few of the necessary vac's but most certainly not all and not 5 out of a series that protects after 2. My other children I did the same. But #1 they are NEVER sick, a cold at best and They do noy have any learning disabilities whick are known to be linked to vac's. I know that not everyone will agree with this that is why I asked my Q. THank you again and for those who do vac., please use caution. Wait til they are older and do 1 shot at a time NOT 4!!

Please research this subject on www.thinktwice.com. My neighbors 2 of 3 children contracted Asbergers immediately following an MMR vaccine. Her 3rd child did not get the syndrome because she wasn't vaccinated. I am beginning to wonder of vaccinating is the right thing to do also. When I read the info on that website I was scared to death. Please keep me posted on what you learn from other members. I also posted a question on vaccines that you may be interested in knowing what responses I have gotten.

We had our first son vaccinated when he was a baby and after every one he seemed to get some illness that required medical attention and it was always accompanied with breathing problems. It finally hit us what that he was reacting and we stopped them. He had eczema, allergies and asthma and our doctor said that he probably had a predisposition to all three but that the vaccines probably made them all worse and to show up at an earlier age. He is seven now and still gets sick alot. Our second son never had any and does not have ANY issues. He is hardly ever sick and has no allergies or signs of asthma.

If you are interested in reading about reactions then the government maintains a site that keeps track of them: vaers.com. Just remember that they estimate that only 10% of the reactions are reported, so it is quite a bit more, it is a very large list! If you are questioning vaccines, then you should also know that they are NOT mandatory for school, Michigan has three exemptions, religious, philosophical and medical. You can find the forms for filing these exemptions, free of charge, and other information at: http://www.momvaccines.org/ which is a group based in Michigan. I have filed exemptions for my older son for school and for my younger son for daycare/preschool and have not had any problems.

Good luck!

Dear L.,
I have two kids with Autism I am very anti-vaccine. My daughters hair fell out had feavers etc. always after her shots. She would be in her own world each time it got worst and worst till she quit talking and was in her own world all together. This is something you must research on your own and find out for yourself. My belief is there is not enough studies done on how all these vaccines effect the immune systems of infants they keep adding more and more to the list. I have a seven month old I did not give any shots till six months I am only giving one series at a time although I am concerned because she was a different baby after the last one unresponsive to people and cried for hours on end it was awful. Although she did snap out of it after a couple weeks Again this requires research and careful consideration. Good Luck, M.

I so far have not given my 7 month old any vaccines. We plan on giving her some (tetanus for sure) but probably not all of them. You have more control over vaccines than doctors want you to know. If your child is breastfeeding he or she has all your immunities and is not at risk until you stop nursing. If you do decide to get some, I would recommend waiting until they are at least 6 months and have a more developed immune system. Some excellent book are: The Vaccine Guide, and Vaccinations: a thoughtful parents guide to risks and benefits.

If your child has a serious reaction (besides low grade fever, pain or redness at the injection sight) you need to take this quite seriously. Especially if it's happened more than once. If you feel that your child is having a reaction make sure you contact your physician. If you don't feel that your physician is taking you seriously...go see another one. Some people do have serious reactions to vaccines. Usually a small percentage but, reactions can be very dangerous.

I've had to learn the hard way to question doctors.

Asside from injection site irritation, we've never had a problem. He HAVE, however, had our son get Rubella before his vaccine was due to be given. So, these illnesses are a real threat. So, in my opinion, it's better to have your child be as safe from these diseases as possible, than to be sorry your child got something preventable.

PLEASE do not consider stopping vaccines. The diseases that they are designed to prevent are deadly to children, and the bacteria and viruses that cause them are still around. The reason that you don't hear about kids getting them is because the vast majority are vaccinated.

In pharmacy school I saw a 9 year old girl with tetanus. She survived but was hospitalized for two months and permanently disabled. Parents who think their children are safe without vaccines are fooling themselves.

Ask your pediatrician about vaccine reactions. Most are mild and can be treated with tylenol or motrin.

I don't think Not vaccinating your child is the answer. Those Diseases are very bad and life threating. I could never take that chance of not getting thier shots. However every parent must make that decision for themselves. I just would not advice
it. I always had a hard time and still do, taking my children for shots because it makes me feel terrible to see them crying, however I would not consider not taking them. As far as the side effects mine had mild to moderate fever and some fussing. Each child is different, My first one cryed for two hours after got her home finally I Put her in the tub and she calmed down. My second one did not cry but ran a fever for a day. Please don't consider not getting though,as a medical assistant also I've studied those diseases and you don't your child to get one. L. O

I have 3 children and when I had my first one I went along with all that the Drs said about vaccines. My son had a reaction such as the first 2 in the hospital he was put in a oxygen tent because he reacted to badly . The next set he was hospitalized overnight. So I waited until he was about 14-15 months until I got any more shots. My second 2 children started to get vaccinated at 14 months one of them and 24 months the other. The older they are the better their sstem can handle the junk that is in the shots.

Hello L.,

I am not sure how old your child is but, I have a daughter that is now 9 1/2 months old and each time she gets her vaccines she gets a fever for 5-7 days. The spot of where the shot was given is red and has a bump for up to two weeks. I have to rub it when I can to try and work it out. My pediatrician has told us not to worry to much each child react differently.

Best of luck
P.

Hi, my name is A. and I am a medical assistant. Before having children, I worked for a local pediatrician for almost 4 years and in that time witness and assisted with thousands of vaccinations . . . during that time, I never saw any reactions beyond irritability and tenderness at the site of injection!

With my own girls, the case was the same! They are 3 and 5 years old and have had a lot of vaccines up to this point with no problems! Nothing that a little Motrin or Tylenol couldn't fix!!!!

Hello, I have a 7 month old son and every time he gets vaccinated he is sick for a whole week afterward. I am not sure what exactly causes this. But he is cranky and clingy, I usually end up having to sleep with him at naps and bedtime, he won't sleep well at all. The first time it happened I was so mad that the doctors never told me what to expect. He is like a completely different baby when it happens. I am not sure if this helps you at all, but this is all I can remember at the time. Good luck!
