My husband and I are traveling to Germany for the first time. What are some destinations or tourist attractions you might recommend? We are hoping to do most our touring by train or walking. We will be near Frankfurt. Any suggestions would be great! Also, if there are any resteraunts that are fun or one we shouldn't miss out on...we would love to know about it. Thanks!

What can I do next?

There is a Great Book put out called "Never A Dull Moment". I got mine in the BX & there is Always somewhere to go! It is broken up by German States. Also Rick Steves' is Fantastic!

Happy Travels!

I live in Heidelberg, which is about an hour from Frankfurt by car. I would recommend coming here for a visit. Our old town is beautiful, and we've got a castle. Another place close by that I love is Ladenburg. I've only been there at night, to eat at Die Kartoffel (which I highly recommend) but it looks like it would be a really neat place to see during the day.

Edited to add that I second Gino's on the hauptstrasse in Heidelberg. They have delicious kebaps!!

Hi,
You are coming to Germany at a beautiful time of year. Don't miss out on the large indoor international food market in Frankfurt. It's located in the center of town, not far from train station and shopping area. Munich is a great place to visit, especially if you like beer gardens and outdoor eating. The kids would like the English Gardens there. Pack bathing suits because the schwimbads are awesome in every town. The hotel can help you locate one to fit your own needs. Many have indoor and outdoor pools, wading pools and grassy areas and slides.
Enjoy,
C.

I think the Rhine is the best of Germany, you get a beautiful view and lots of castles. I have been a lot of places here in Germany (Romantic road, Lake Constance, Fussen, Black Forest, and the Rhine, ect.) I loved it we drove one side and then we stayed at Koblenz and then continued on the other side. I'm not sure how a train would work out on that but it's not far from Frankfurt if you decided to drive. We bought a book called Traveling by rail in Europe and it has Germany in it to. I would recomend buying some books on Germany (any thing by Rick Steves is a winner) We have his Germany books and Europe to. I have only lived here 6 months and have been all through Germany now I am on to other countries!!! have fun traveling. Hope this helped!

Heidelberg is a beautiful city about 45 minutes from Frankfurt, you can get here by train. There is a great castle with beautiful grounds, and the "Haupstrasse" which is closed to cars and is full of great stores and restaurants, I recommend Gino's for a quick bite and the White Swan for a nice sit-down meal. And right by Heidelberg is Schwetzingen, the "spargel" (white asparagus) capital, it has a lovely palace that is nice inside, but the gardens and grounds are perfectly groomed and you can spend hours walking around them. And right across the street from the palace is a broad choice of restaurants, we like the Cafe' Journal and Brauhouse, which has it's own brewery and excellent food.
