Vacation Ideas - New Lenox,IL

The last few years we have taken a vacation with my parents, sister and her boyfriend. My parents have a boat and they like to go boating and fishing. We are more into tubing but will fish once or twice with them while we're away. We've gotten a cabin and it works out great that we are all able to do stuff together or one couple can stay back with my toddler while the other two couples go out and do something - so everyone can get a break and have fun. I'm looking for ideas on where to go this year. I've heard the Dells are nice or Indiana Beach but not sure if you would bring a boat to either of those places. She's only 2.5 so I don't know how much there would be for her to do there anyway. We've done Rend Lake and Lake Geneva in the past and both were fine but not much for her to do there either. I'd appreciate any ideas!

Thanks,
K.

Check out Michigan City, IN. My sister and brother-in-law used to dock there at the marina. The town is not that fascinating, but the lakefront is pretty and clean. There are dunes to climb. A little zoo. Ice cream shops and cute stores in nearby boutique towns, like New Buffalo. We stay at a little community called "Beachwalk" where you can rent by the week and there is a nice pool and new playground that would be ideal for a child of 2.5 up to 10. You could "google" Beachwalk, or we have rented private homes in the same town for a little cheaper. There is an outlet mall nearby, too, about a mile from Beachwalk, that seems to be a hit with a lot of moms.

you didn't say how far you want to travel. there is table rock lake in missouri..down by branson. there is also lake of the ozarks. we don't boat, but when we have been down that way, there are certainly lots of people towing boats!

I agree with Joy about Indiana beach. It's not much of a beach, and the amusement park is not geared toward little ones. We like the Dells, particularly Wilderness Resort. I don't know what to tell you about the boat though!

HI K.-

I'm sorry I don't have any ideas as to where to go. However, you did mention Indiana Beach as a possibility. I would not recommend it! In my opinion, there is not much to do there besides the beach that didn't look like much to me, and the amusement park which was just okay... nothing fancy... admission was reasonable, but don't expect it to be like Six Flags. Besides our condo, the whole place didn't seem allthat clean. Just my 2 cents about Indian Beach:)
It was not worth the 3 hour drive to me, my cousin, my mom, and aunt. My kids were 5 at the time and they enjoyed the pool that was connected to our condo. (Our condo was new and that part of our trip was nice.) They also enjoyed the amusement park, but they didn't have much to compare it with, unlike myself.)

Take care,

J.
