Hi ladies, My husband and I have been increasing the frequency of our sex lives lately as we're trying for baby #2! Woo-hoo! However, with that, comes my increasing number of UTI's. I think another one is around the corner, because I can feel it burn when I urinate. :) **Adding this tidbit, I do urinate promptly after having sex!**

Has anyone had any experience with Uva Ursi? It's an herbal remedy commonly used for centuries before antibiotics. I'll post some information on it from livestrong...

Arctostaphylos uva ursi, also known as bearberry, is a trailing red-berried shrub that is native to the alpine forests of North America, Siberia, Europe , the Himalayas and the Iberian Peninsula. The University of Maryland Medical Center explains that until the discovery of sulfa drugs, uva ursi was the most common treatment of urinary tract infections because it contains two active ingredients, arbutin and hydroquinone, both thought to contain antibacterial properties.

Researchers have discovered that uva ursi contains antibacterial properties that can help fight infections. The herb also contains tannins, which have an astringent effect, shrinking and tightening mucous membranes to help reduce inflammation and fight infection, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center. The herb appears most effective in people who have less acidic urine because increased uric acid decreases its antibacterial properties.

So what do you think? Should I try this before going to the doctor? It's friday and the doctor is booked already and it's not even 8am. I'll have to wait the weekend anyway or go to a doc in the box, which I hate doing. Should I try it? Any luck with it? It sounds promising!! I look forward to reading your positive feedback. :) :) And trust me, I've had dozens of them in a lifetime, so having a UTI is nothing new to me. I drink lots of pure cranberry juice at this time too.

What can I do next?

I have been in your shoes before and have a very sensitive urinary tract. keep up the task of flushing urine out after having sex...it will help. Also, what you need to do is drink cranberry juice each day or take cranberry supplements for awhile. Cystex is a good one. This alters the chemistry of the urinary tract and bladder which prevents bacteria from being able to thrive in this environment. it seriously makes a big difference. Also try to wash or rinse the vaginal area before and after sex with warm water and either a mild cleanser made for our private areas or warm water and white vinegar mixed 2 to 1....heavy on the water. Also, you may be getting recurrent infections because the antibiotics used were not strong enough and bacteria is still in the area. Common antibiotics are Bactrim DS, Macrobid, Septra, and Cipro XP. The Cipro XP works within three days and is the most poerful of these drugs to wipe out as much bacteria that causes UTI's as possible. If you have not taken this...you should ask about it. Also, be aware that other things can cause UTI symptoms and mimic this kind of discomfort. Yeast infections, kidney stones near the bladder or in the bladder or urethra, and also other bacterial infections that are not related to the urinary system at all. It's nothing to play around with. Go to your doctor and let them know what is going on and have them test your urine. It is very simple and quick. This way, you get this wiped out for good and can be back on the road to the baby-making in no time. Health comes first. A healthy mom means a nice healthy space for the baby!

My daughter frequently gets UTI's after sex, also...... I think her doctor actually gave her a prescription of something to take afterwards, to help ward them off.

One question..... do you urinate after sex? That helps flush out any bacteria that may have gotten forced up into the urethra.....

I second what Malia said....make sure to urinate after sex every time. Bacteria is forced into the urethra anytime you have clitoral contact. This use to happen to me but I listened to my doctor and starting urinating after and have had no more uti's & several pregnancies (so it didn't stop nature from working)! Also, I've never tried the product you listed but AZO worked for me. Good luck!

I think that you should check with your doctor and make sure that the product won't interfere with conceiving.

I suggest that you simply drink more water.

I've noticed that I'm far more susceptible to UTI's when I'm not staying hydrated. Whenever I start feeling that burn, I simply drink a few more glasses of water that day and it fades away.
