I was told that I have another UTI again if it went away in the first place. Dont think so. Anyways the doc put me on Cipro and I was just wondering if anyone has taken it and if it worked? Also if you did anything else to get rid of it and to prevent it from coming back.

What can I do next?

I took Cipro for a UTI. I liked it so much better than the first antibiotic I took, which I think was Bactrim. If I remember right, I didn't have to take the Cipro as long and it worked. Drink lots of cranberry juice. It helps prevent utis.

Cipro doesn't work for me to clear up UTI. I have to take Bactrim, a sulpher medication. (Don't forget to drink lots of water and cranberry juice)

I had one a few weeks ago and was prescribed that, it worked. Also, drink lots of water to help flush it out, limit sugar intake, and if you go the cranberry juice route it has to be one without sugar. If you have recurring ones you could take cranberry tablets to help prevent them.

Cipro is usually given 2nd line after Bactrim for UTI. Since u are having it again, likely is why he gave you Cipro.
Cipro is very effective and works. Make sure your doc is sending ur urine for culture/sensitivity tests (to see what type of bacteria u have, and what type of antibiotic it is sensitive to).

When I have bad UTI's, I take Azo, available OTC, for the pain/discomfort.
I LOVE it! A tiny blue pill, Azo kicks in within 1/2 hr and takes away that horrid burning/urgency feeling. It will turn ur urine blue or orange; it's just coats the bladder as an anesthetic. U can find it at any drug store in the bladder/GU section. It's NOT an antibiotic so u still need to take the Cipro with it.

Other things to do: No hanky-panky until your symptoms resolve (or if you have to, pee right after sex), drink LOTS of water, avoid caffeine, sugery drinks, and acidic drinks which can irritate the bladder. Yogurt daily can help restore the natural good bacteria in the GI/GU tract.

If u keep getting UTI's, you need to see a urologist to find out why. Good luck! I'd rather get a cold anyday over a UTI!!!

Clean yourself after sex, I always get a few big cups of water to pour on me while going pee. If I don't do this I will get a uti. I have used cipro and it worked for me fine. Just like others said, water, yogurt, cranberry juice or I used to take cranberry pills on a daily basis.

Hello Nicole,
I had chronic UTIs and Cipro did work to cure them. However, it became so bad that a doctor referred me to a urologist and I had surgery twice. That didn't cure them, so they put me on a daily antiobiotic. I did not like being on a daily drug to prevent them, so someone suggested cranberry pills. And they work for me. I have been taking them now for several years and have not had another UTI since.

Cipro is the first-line antibiotic of choice - it should work well against most UTIs. Unfortunately once you get one, you will have an easier time getting another one so you can take simple precautions:

1. Always wipe front to back. Use clean tissue for each wipe-down. The most common cause of UTIs is fecal contamination on the urethra.

2. Wear cotton underwear so that the moisture in that area can stay under control. The silky stuff is sexy but there is no air circulation. Once I switched to exclusively wearing cotton underwear, I hardly ever got UTIs.

3. Cranberry juice does help - but it's more important to stay hydrated and pee as soon as you feel the urge. Holding it in is not good for the health of your urinary tract.

4. Do try to make sure your sex partner keeps his genitals relatively clean and both of you should pee and wash your genital area AFTER having sex. I always drink water before and after the act, and then use a handheld shower or a big cup of water to wash my privates. You will sleep better and you will reduce your chance of infection drastically.

I used to have a terrible time with UTIs. Dr told me to do the following:
1. don't hold your urine...go when you need to
2. don't stay in wet bathing suit
3. wear cotton underwear
4. drink cranberry juice (the 100% juice kind)
5. stay well hydrated
6. urinate after sex

I haven't had one in years *knock on wood*

I don't remember the last prescription I had for a UTI, however it was pretty nasty as it was the second set of antibiotics and I was pregnant. Anywho, drink water and PEE AFTER SEX every.single.time.
good luck!
