Should I return them to Target, or deal with Pampers themselves? I am SOOO angry right now, as I had the first Dry Max diaper on my baby from about 1pm-3pm, and now he has a rash AND some areas of bleeding!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Used 2 - one on my 2 yr old (no issue, and he also wore it for 2 hrs), and the other on my 8 month old--poor baby!!

Emily, I had lots of my FB friends recommend them too--actually, I had already placed a Diapers.com order for them over the weekend, but ran out of disposables, so I got a box from Target this morning. Not your fault! :)

I had the same problem with my daughter. I dealt directly with pampers and they were great in terms of customer service. Gave me a full refund and a bunch of coupons. Sorry you have to deal with this.

Oh, yes. Do a quick google search. This is a HUGE problem. I would directly contact pampers. Better yet, contact the FDA and make a report. pampers is doing everything they can, to deny there is a problem with these diapers. http://www.fda.gov/AboutFDA/ContactFDA/default.htm

I recommend Weleda Calendula Diaper Cream, to heal the rash. (It's most likely a chemical burn, actually. This stuff WORKS. It's a bit pricey, around $12.00 a bottle, but it lasts a long time. It heals FAST, too!) It's not a "zinc" or "cream" based cream, actually. It's botanical and extremely healing. This is what we used for my son.

I would call Target and ask if they'll take them back but then I'd also contact Pampers. Check out this article - seems it's a common problem but only affects some kids:

So sorry about your baby's rash.. I'd take him to a doctor to get him checked out just because he's so young. Doesn't sound like your run of the mill rash :(

This hit the news not too long ago! Pampers Dry Max diapers new formula was causing almost instant chemical rashes on babies. It looked like a red hot water burn in the shape of the diaper with worse spots mixed in. They (I think) redid the formula but it sounds like you got a bad batch. I say DO BOTH!!! Get pics and show them to Target and get a refund, then call Pampers (I'm certain your call will not suprise them) and get coupons for another line, Cruisers or Baby Dry or even the newborn sensitive that runs up to size 3 I thinkl

Also, like others have said, call your pedi and get the special burn cream. It's Silver nitrate or something to that effect. It is specifically made for burns like this and it worked wonders on mine! It does say be careful with use under 2 months but with your pedi's blessing, it should be okay. It was for us.

It sounds like u got some feedback on where to return them so I wont repeat the other mamas. My DD had (has) sensitive skin down there. A looooooot of diapers would do that to her too. So fast it would get fire red, purple, shiney, then just bleed. Wipes will burn so I used a wash cloth with warm water. No soap. And I did not use desitin or butt paste but rather petrolium jelly. Just plain old vasaline. Its a great moisture barrier but you don't have to wipe as hard to get it off. Good luck to you and your poor lil guy.

Kate:

Call Pampers on their 800# - while it might be embarrassing take pics of your son's groin area so they can SEE it.

Give him some benadryl to help ease the pain and discomfort he may be feeling!!! I'm sssssoooo sorry!!!!

Take them back to Target and explain what happened. They can return the package to Pampers a 'defective' and get it replaced. If they won't let you take them back ask to speak to the store manager. You may have to take store credit instead of money back but you can buy a package of diapers he can use.

When my daughter was a baby there were some diapers I couldn't use for her. She didn't get a diaper rash or start bleeding but where the diaper touched her she looked like she had a bad sunburn.

Ouch - I would call Pampers and let them know what has happened - they will probably send you a coupon or two for free diapers - obviously you won't be using the dry max anymore. Not sure if Target would take them back or not - they can be difficult at times when it comes to returns - but I guess it's worth a try. I hope your son heals quickly and isn't in too much pain.

i would call Pampers and take pictures. Don't let them bull doze you.

I am VERY sorry this has happened to your little one. it must hurt a lot.

Go to your pharmacist and ask them for a cream/ointment to put on it. Tell them how he got it - that it is not the typical diaper rash. In our pharmacy - I would suggest Bourdeaux's butt paste.

Maybe, it is just a coincidence. Did he already have a slight rash before and then did some major poo poo in the new diaper? My four kids have have bad rashes before, but I never blamed the diaper. It sounds just like bad diaper rash.

It COULD be an allergy, however, and in that case, it isn't Pampers fault, but they should have no problem giving you a refund if an allergy is what you suspect. ...and I'd go further with trying to figure out what is in that diaper that isn't in others you have tried so you know what chemical or substance or whatever it is to avoid.

...but it would totally sound like a coincidence to me if he was slightly irritated on the bum prior. Those can turn into monster rashes fast.

BTW, I've found that pure lanolin is the best for curing diaper rash.

ETA: i didn't know this was a wide-spread problem. i change my mind, possibly! A chemical burn sounds awful:( If THAT is the case... yes, FDA!

They use a lot of chemicals in diapers so he could have had a reaction to one of them. I am sure if you call pampers they will help you.
They really should know about it, what if that lot number needs to be recalled.

Just deal with your son's extreme rash. Try some Desitin or A&D ointment or even Polysporin ointment. Notice I said ointment. You only want something that is in a vaseline-type base. No other creamy ingredients that might make things worse. These new "dryest" diapers and sanitary pads include some wicked polymers that cause contact dermatitis. IMHO, steer clear of them and use the old tried, tested and true. Once your son is OK then focus on dealing with Target to get your money back or Pampers to complain. As always, YMMV.

It sounds like they suck for kids with sensitive skin. Stop using them and return them to the store and grab a different brand.

Looks like you have enough advice for the diaper rash.

This happened to my oldest some 21 years ago with huggies. Some kids just have sensitive skin.
