Does anyone know anything about Upromise? I know that the purpose is to raise money for college, but I have no idea how it works.

Thanks!

You can tie store cards to it and I think a credit card so that when you purchase certain products (all have the Upromise logo) you receive so many cents or whatever the deal is with the item. You can then also invest in a 529 account for interest.

You will apply it to a 529 plan. You earn points toward your account by shopping either with your loyalty cards or using their website and their links. Other people can help you contribute like grandparents too. 529 plans work a lot like a 401k you pick how the money gets invested until your child is ready for college. Do your research on college investment plans. I believe all of Texas's plans are Oppenheimer run now. You can also invest through other states.

There are a lot of different ways to earn money for your upromise account. They have lots of on-line merchants that you can link to through their website and you get a % back in your account based on purchases. Example: if you order on line from Old Navy, you get 3% of your purchase added to your upromise account. There are a lot of these offers. In addition, you can purchase certain grocery store brands and through your loyalty card (tom thumb, and others) they will credit a percentage of your purchase. You can also sign up other friends and relatives whose purchases will be credited to your account. The vendors and the percentages do vary over time and their are probably other ways to earn money for your account. You can also start a college investment account for your kids through this organization. Upromise has been around for awhile--at one point I got $40 out of my account when my daughter was ready to start college. I never tried to buy the specific grocery brands, but I guess I did and received credit for the purchases. Good luck!> If you do a lot of online shopping, I imagine it would add up over time.

I looked into it years ago. Sorry, I don't remember the specifics, but it wasn't something that looked worthwhile to me.
