Thanks for all the advice and just wanted to let you guys know a few things that was going on. I found some information online about gargling in coconut oil or peroxide a couple of times a day. So for two or three days I gargled with peroxide in the mornings and then coconut oil at night and peroxide at night and now it seems the tonsil stone is gone. My throat still bothering me some it's kind of scratchy and it still feels a little stopped up but maybe that's just from so much strain on it through this time.

What can I do next?

That's interesting.

I don't know if you saw my update, but my son had the procedure done (I think it was laser-ing) where they just zapped away the sides somewhat to make them smoother, rather than the whole removal of the tonsils.

I checked with him yesterday, and he has told me that he DOES still get the odd tonsil stone. I didn't know. He said it's not so bothersome to have told me about, and it's far less frequent and smaller. I think we were supposed to go back and let them know, but he said he's not going to go through that again - so we're leaving it for now (his choice).

It was not a horrible procedure (I was there) - definitely less invasive than full tonsillectomy, but interesting to know that he said he still has the little 'pockets' where they collect. He said in his case, it results in bad breath (he can smell them).

Anyhow - hope that helps in your decision. He said it definitely left the sides smoother, but not perfectly smooth.

Keep us posted. I had no idea it was so common. I liked some of the other suggestions too. :)

Tonsil stones will come back over time. They are made of goo (a very unscientific term) that builds up in your tonsils over time from everything that's in your mouth. So you will need to repeat the procedure occasionally.

Glad you found a way to manage it but your problem will still return.
You'll be done with it once and for all if you have your tonsils completely out.
I suspect the peroxide is keeping the bacteria at bay for now but it's very harsh on your teeth and mouth tissue and using this method for the long term will cause other problems eventually.

That's very good to know I will have to try that. Not sure if I can do the coconut oil. Tried once but the feel just about made me vomit. (I am funny about different textures in my mouth) But I could probably do peroxide. Thanks for sharing.

I wouldn't stop doing it.

I would get my throat checked if it's still scratchy though....

Good luck

I would keep doing what you're doing. I might mix the peroxide with water. If after a good try and you know it's not working you still have the other options.

I went to Web MD. One of the uses for hydrogen peroxide is in the mouth. Hydrogen Peroxide Solution, Non-

Hydrogen peroxide is a mild antiseptic used on the skin to prevent infection of minor cuts, scrapes, and burns. It may also be used as a mouth rinse to help remove mucus or to relieve minor mouth irritation (e.g., due to canker/cold sores, gingivitis). This product works by releasing oxygen when it is applied to the affected area. The release of oxygen causes foaming, which helps to remove dead skin and clean the area.

The site also gives guidelines for its use. One is to mix it with water for use in the mouth.

Tonsil stones come back. It is great you found a short term fix but if a Dr. recommended removal, I'd do that sooner vs later before t hings got worse and my throat stayed scratchy.

Coconut oil is commonly used for oil pulling which is good thing for your teeth and gums if you can do it. My daughter does it daily as a routine that maintains healthy gums and teeth. I personally can't do it..
