Update and Question......

To update, I posted a few times on here with moving questions. We are all moved and the transition was great for my two year old, no problems whatsoever. She is in her crib, with her bed also set up for her to use during the day. All the Dora stickers moved to the new place quite easily with the wax paper.

Now, my new question is my daughter's cradle cap seems to have gotten a lot worse in teh last couple days, should she have grown out of crdale cap by now, could this be another condition? And any tricks to get rid of it would be great.

What can I do next?

my pediatrician said just to use warm water on a wash cloth and soak it everyday.....that DID NOT work for my sons cradle cap. What did work was letting his head be under water in the bath for awhile and when he got out I rubbed baby oil into his scalp and used a small baby comb and gently rubbed back and forth and side to side to exfoliate the dead skin. Leave the baby oil on her head for the day so don't put too much on to begin with. I did this daily for a week or longer til it all seemed gone. It hasn't really come back, the first sight of it I just repeat once and it's gone.
We also use a humidifier now since the dry heat in the house seems to give us all a sore throat. Maybe that has helped too. Good luck.

Check with the dr, because it may be something else. My son had it also and the dr had me wash his hair with a small amt of Neutragena once a week for 4 weeks and it went away. Now there are prescription baby shampoos.

my son had cradle cap for a long time. i tried mineral oil first- put the oil on a cotton swab and rub it on the affected area. let it sit for a bit and then wash it off in the bath (sometimes i would try combing it both while the oil was on and after the shampoo). it got better but not completely so i tried neutragena t-gel shampoo for dandruff. apparently the two conditions are the result of the same thing. i was worried that the shampoo would be too harsh for him, but he had no reaction except that the cradle cap went away completely. good luck!

Hi Monica,

I have friends who have children one and two years old that still get cradle cap sometimes. We all swear by Arbonne's Baby Care products. We use the Wash/Hair Shampoo and the Baby Oil. I use the oil first, comb it through and then wash with the baby wash. One of the things I love about these products besides that they work on all of my children's sensitive skin is that the products are botanically based so you don't have the concern of using adult dandruff shampoos, mineral oil or the like nor is it going to mess up your linens and furniture!

You can get these products at the Shop Online tab of my site at http://APerfectMoment.MyArbonne.com!

Hugs,
L.

Your daughter's cradle cap might signify an allergy or intolerance, so definitely check it out with your pediatrician or allergist. What my doctor recommended for my son's cradle cap was to put mineral oil on his scalp (a little bit goes a long way), and give it a few minutes, then gently comb the scalp with a fine-tooth baby comb. The cradle cap comes right off! However, the hair is a real mess! Depending on how long her hair is, you might want to just "slick it back" until her next shampoo. It's good for her scalp, but not for the couch, linens, etc. :)
Good luck.

Cradle cap is basically the same thing as dandruff--at two, she's old enough for you to give her a shampoo with adult dandruff shampoo, just be sure not to get it in her eyes!

Hi Monica.
What does it look like? I'm asking because my daugther who is now 18 mos, had cradle cap and now within the last couple months we have noticed a severed dry scalp and it is itchy. The doctor told us to try selsum blue shampoo and we have and it doesn't seem to be any better.
I haven't been using it twice a week as it says on the bottle. Her scalp is very dry and scaly looking.

Cradle cap can be stubborn. My son had an awful case of it. I actually used Denorex and it worked. Just have to be careful not to get it in baby's eyes. Should take a couple of weeks to get it under control with this method. Don't peel it! You can hurt tender skin under the crusty layer.

Cradle cap at 2 years old may be something else. What is her diet like? Maybe she needs more of a certain nutrient or oily foods.

I would stay away from medications and oils and shampoos. My daughters cradle cap just went away on its own...it took a bit of time but it flaked off naturally. My doctor said not too worry that it would resolve itself naturally and it did.

Human bodies are amazing. Take care to feed yourself and your family a varied diet of whole organic foods. Diet is usually the cause of most things. (My little ones cradle cap was due to my diet as I was breast feeding her, I changed my diet and no more CC) As parents we want to resolve issues quickly but sometimes our bodies need time to fight things off or deal with them. Allow your childs body the time it needs. Don't get too worried (even though that is our job). Babies and children are more resilient than we imagine.

good luck.

My daughter had cradle cap when she was a baby. I am an Area Manager with Arbonne International and their baby oil is the best! You put a little on the scalp and then comb through it and it comes right off. I'd be happy to send you a sample pack of our baby products if you'd like. Just email me at ____@____.com. Check out my website as well: www.mariatargi.myarbonne.com.
