B..
You did a good job! We could talk all day but you put the plan in place and practiced it. You had the bag packed and knew who to call.
Remember to be proud of how you BOTH handled it!
Get better soon!
A little while ago, I asked what I should do if I unexpectedly had to go to the hospital with my young child in tow. There were some very comforting and helpful replies which I have been working on implementing. I wanted to add an update because early this morning, this precise situation occurred.
I began to feel unwell a little after 11:30, took a medicine I keep in reserve for such symptoms, and went back to bed. An hour later, I was much worse so I made the necessary phone calls to the on call doctor at my specialist make sure the ER was prepared for me to arrive. No one was able to arrive in time for my daughter to stay at home so I knew I would have to take her with me and hope that someone came before I was given IV painkillers. I've kept a bag packed with toys, snacks, and books for Chickpea after receiving Mamapedia advice so all I had to do was to wake her when the taxi arrived. She was very calm because we actually had a sort of drill for this two weeks ago. My dad arrived at the hospital after about 40 minutes and took her back home. I was discharged this AM and am at home resting.
I am so relieved that I was worried over nothing. At no point during the nearly hour that my daughter was with me, did anyone criticize or question her presence. I did decide to wait until Chickpea was gone for the IV painkillers, but I was able to get fluids and my other meds started. I simply told her to read aloud to me while the IV was being placed so she was looking at her book and not the procedure.
Again, many thanks to everyone who was kind enough to reassure me and give me practical tips for what to do.

Persimmon,
I am so glad that you are feeling better and that your plan went well. It sounds like both you and your daughter were prepared enough for it to be a relatively 'contained' event. Good for you. Get some rest and I hope you feel up to snuff sooner than later!
Wow, you did a great job! I am super impressed, not only that you had a plan, but that you were able to implement it while feeling poorly.
Best wishes to you. I hope you are feeling better!
Thanks for the update! I'm so glad to hear things worked out well for you. Now get some rest :-)
I am happy the experience was a good one.
A few months ago, my DIL called me at 12:50 AM. All she could say was 'pain - can't breathe', luckily I live right next door. I ran over and she was throwing up and in massive pain. My son works 6 PM - 6 AM and my other kids all have little ones who were sleeping, so we packed up the 3 yr old and headed to the ER. The staff were wonderful and understanding. We had a few toys along and little guy kept going until about 5 AM. We ended up being there until 5:30 AM because we needed to get the results of tests and x-rays.
She was back the next day and they did a CT scan and decided she needed her gall bladder out so the kept her overnight and did the surgery the next day.
ER staff know you are sick and understand if you need to bring your kids.
I'm glad you're home now and resting. Take good care of yourself~~~
Virtual hugs~
You did great. Your daughter did great. And how wonderful that your dad came to get her so quickly from the hospital. I'm relieved that you discharged and are feeling better. I hope that continues for a long time.
