Hi I was wondering if anyone knows where I can donated unused diapers. I recently gave birth and the hospital and friends gave me so many diapers. Unfortunatly, they are already too small for my little boy. Any daycare or women shelter suggestion? I recently moved to Illinois from another country so any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

What can I do next?

Preserving Human Dignity or PHD in Palatine could always use more diapers. They help out single mothers and mothers who can't afford a lot. They give baby food, diapers, clothes etc. but the parents don't just get them for free, they have to either do "parenting" sessions or things to better help them in life. They must complete 3 things on a sheet and then get their free items each month....it's wonderful and they helped me so much when my fiance and i moved in and were struggling for a bit.

Hi. I don't know where you are in Illinois, but I know that Glen Ellyn has a community outreach that will take diapers as donations. I'm sure other cities do as well.

Also, contact DCFS - they outsource some of their foster parenting cases to Catholic Charities, etc., and I know that at least Catholic Charities would take them.

Let me know if this helps!!!!

There is a large domestic violence shelter in Aurora called Mutual Ground--their donations page is here: http://www.mutualgroundinc.com/donations.htm

There is also a long-time homeless shelter downtown. It's website (and wish list) can be found at www.hesedhouse.org

Finally, Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church on Eola Road is active in Project Gabriel, which provides services like transportation to doctor appointments, help in securing financial assistance, and counseling to pregnant women. They're at www.olmercy.com

Hi L.,

I believe the Crisis Pregnancy Center in Aurora would appreciate them their phone number is ###-###-####. You may also want to try calling Birthright their phone number is ###-###-####. Birthright is a crisis pregnancy center and they are located in Naperville.

I am not familiar with either one but I do donate things to Crisis Pregancy Center in Elgin and they are always appreciative. If neither one of the places work out you could always call them and I am sure they could help-their phone number is ###-###-####.

Thank you for being willing to donate them. It all helps and makes a big difference to others.

Hi L.,
I would call a local church and ask them if the have any places that they know of. Sometimes they work with women's shelters and can give you a number.

L.,
You may want to check with the pediatric unit at one of the hospitals. Sometimes it is a choice between diapers and meds for some parents. My grandson was just diagnosed with Leukemia and had to spend a week in the hospital, one the things he needed most were diapers. The hospital provided some for him but even so he ran through them quickly because of all the IV fluids being pumped into him.
Or womens shelters and fire departments good ideas as well. You can always tuck away some of the newborn diapers, along with other things that you have gotten two of, to make a gift box for someone else who is having a baby. =)

I know you asked to donate them which is such a generous thing to do. I wanted to also let you know if the diapers are unopened, you can take them to a store (receipt not required) and exchange them for a larger size.

I had received 4 packages of newborn diapers and my daugther weighed 9 1/2 lbs at birth so we didn't really use any of them. I returned them all for Size 1 diapers with no problem.

Donating is very generous but I wanted to give you another option.
