She would love a certificate for a day of pampering. They also have a summer workshope she could attend.
I'm looking for a unique birthday gift idea for a friend of mine's daughter who is having her birthday party this weekend. She is turning 7. She's a little princess, loves Little Pet Shop, etc. But I want to give her something unique and special, since her mom has said she doesn't really need any more toys. Any ideas?
Thanks for all your wonderful suggestions! There are some really great ones, and I had a hard time deciding which one to choose! I'm going to be filing them away for more "cool Aunt" and "cool Mommy" moments for birthdays or special occasions.
I decided to go with the scrapbook idea. Her Mom scrapbooks as well, so I thought this would be a great Mommy-daughter time for them. I bought her a Tinkerbell 8x8 album with stickers and paper, and a Disney princess disposable camera to fill the album with.
Again, thanks for all your suggestions, you ladies are lifesavers!

Go to Learning Express and get a little bracelet or necklace. They also love getting beach bags with their name monogrammed on it. Target beach bag plus$8 monogram could be reasonable. Cooking lessons were a favorite for my girls. Also loved a pot/soil/seed kit.
how about a Webkinz?
If you have't heard of them go to their website(www.webkinz.com)
They are for sale at Lt2 most hallmark stores.
Rock painting.
Yes, I was watching a decorating show and the "hunt" for that special rock is time well spent. Buy paints ahead of time. Have a great time!! I wish you and your girl well.
I also find it harder these days to get kids something they like. A lot of kids are in to having little money on a mccdonalds card. The best part is they enjoy using it like a credit card. I also started buying magazine subscriptions for the older kiddos. Hope this will help you.
What about a spa pedicure/manicure? It would be special time for her to remember.
A gift certificate to Justice for Girls, which is a clothing store in Houston. Not sure if you are in the area or not. Or Little Diva's or Libby Lu's in the malls in this area.
I sell for a catalog company that has very cute and inexpensive monogrammed and personalized items for babies and kids.
We also have a seperate catalog for women, beautiful fabrics and lots of embroidery fonts and colors to choose from. We are priced much lower than any of the specialty monogram shops in the area.
I can send you a FREE catalog...just email me your address!

Have a great day!
If she is a princess, she would enjoy a gift certificate from "Sweet & Sassy" a girls salon catering to the needs of little princesses. Full salon with options for make-up, pedicures, and manicures....I have an 8 year old and this was a great place to take her. Good Luck.
I know what her mom means about toys. I bought some gorgeous little girl coat hangers for a little girl who had a birthday recently. I bought 4 of them but on later reflection should have bought a few more. They were really pretty. I am sure a princess would have liked them.
Good luck.

I don't know if this helps, but my daughter just turned 7 two weeks ago, and she received two of the best gifts! One was a "make it yourself" jewelry box kit. It includes a wooden (or sometimes glass) box and you decorate it with stickers, paint or jewels. She loved it!! The second gift was a makeup bag filled with makeup samples (eyeshadow, lipstick, etc). The mom that gave the gift told me that she does this for all the girls this age because they are so bombarded with models and "Hannah Montana's" that their first makeup lesson should be from their mom. That this is a great introductory period where the mom can talk with her daughter, while they are doing something really fun, about what is important such as natural vs heavy makeup, boys, etc.
I really hope this helps!
My granddaughter loved this.......Go to a second hand shop and buy fairly large colorful retro outfits, hats, gloves etc. and add a matching purse with party favors inside for a parting treat. Most little girls love dressing up. Let them keep the clothes too. Serve with fancy yet mismatched china glassware. Serve iced tea in cups, grownup cake or cookies, finger kid food! You can dress as butler or maid for extra fun......Hope it works, Cathy
how about a gift certificate for a trail ride on a horse. I know a great place called Cypresswood Trails that is not too expensive. good luck!
I have four little girls and prefer that they are given gift cards to places like:
children's or health museum
movie theater
Blockbuster
Mcdonald's or other restaurant
zoo
Or consumables like a craft project or something to eat.
My niece turned 7 in June and some of the "unique" things she got were gift certificates to "Learning Express" and I was able to get her a "pint-sized" manicure and pedicure from the local place she and her mom go to. I was trying at a "real" spa, but you you really have to talk it up to get them to give you the "pint-sized" prices and even then sometimes they won't. My niece is alos getting to be very cretive and for Christmas I got her an all inclusive scrapbook (minus pictues, sizzors (sp?), and tape/glue) for about $15 at Wal-mart. My brother got her really cool art pads, one for pencil drawing, one for water colors, and one for pastels or something like that. Just tap into the things that she really likes to do, if I know I could help out a little better, but I hope this gets the ceative juices flowing.
Best of luck,
S.
A basket filled with lip gloss, bath products, LIGHT fingernail polish. Put lots of ribbon on the basket. A nice purse filled with &10.00 in one dollar bills. A mall gift card..very big girl. A childrens digital camera ( cheap & indestructable) A magazine subsrciption. A set of big girl books..Judy Blume..etc. A bead set would be cute as well..she can make jewelry. Girls love art..you could get her a nice set of pencils & a book on beginning drawing. That's all the ideas I have.
How about a trip to the zoo or a petting farm? Even a day at the aquarium? Sometimes, spending time is the most precious gift we can give.
Try asking if it is ok for yu to pick up the little girl early in the morning before the party. Then you and your kids can take her to breakfast then to a book store where she can pick out any book ( with in reason) . Take pictures of the outing. She will never forget her 7th birthday with her second family. This will give her mom some extra needed time to get ready for the party. Blessed Be to all of you
Give a book to the children's hospital, your local library or church library in the child's name. The book will have a plate on the front page given by...in honor of... For the church library, I usually put something like to the glory of God and in honor and thanksgiving for ________'s 7th birthday, or what ever is suitable. The child gets recognition every time some child or parent reads it and the better yet, she will learn at an early age that giving is better than receiving. I have even presented the book to the child to be read (gently) and then the mom or even you can take the kids the donate the book. You,your daughter and the other child could make it an outing that would be fun and memorable for all. Seven is a good age to understand that she is blessed to be healthy and have all that she needs and that books are so important that they are wonderful gifts for everyone. Also, That way, other children and moms learn this is a nice way to celebrate a special occassion.
For my daughter and nephew I got a personalized hard back book called The First Adventures of Incredible You. Their names, family member's names, and even the pet's name along with their street name, and other places personalized to the child's information. I was really pleased with the quality, and it will be a great keepsake to look back on as they get older. I ordered it off the web at custommadeforkids.com.

Hey J.~
How about this: print up a "gift certificate" for a play date for the bday girl and you/your kids. Take her to some place that's unique - Libby Lu, to the park for a picnic, to ride horses, etc. It's really a gift to the bday girl AND your friend b/c your friend can then get a break, too. (Or if she feels more comfortable, she could join y'all. Be sure to describe the upcoming event on the certificate and clear it with bday girl's mom first.) Good luck!

Hi,
My mom is all about giving the children artistic things. I like that because it gives the child something to do and create. It is not a toy but a project. WalMart has different things from painting to coloring and many others. You can get floam projects or beads for jewelery. Hope this helps you buy for her birthday. I like these ideas because they helps bring out the artist in our little ones. Good luck.
If she,s a little princess maybe she would like a gift cert. to get a mani.,pedi. (not just for adults) she may like being pampered.. Sincerely, mom of 3 beautiful girls 10yrs,9yrs, and 19 mths. B.
Hi J.! Does she wear her hair up in pig tails and stuff? If so, maybe a cute, colorful organizer filled with brand new barrettes, clips, pony tail holders, ribbons, etc. Also, my daughter always loved getting new pajamas and pretty socks, maybe some cute houseshoes. Hope this gives you some ideas! Have fun at the party!
How about a scarpbook and some supplies. She is planty old enough to start one or you could make one for her of things you have done with her. Or Libby Lu gift cert. (ClubLibbyLu.com)They can go and get all glamed up. You could get her a pretty dress and take her somewhere special, ballet or tea. (My aunt started this with me when I was 6. I loved being a big girl for a day and it continued until I had a family of my own.) A specail charm braclet or locket. A nice jewelry box. Take her to a pottery paint shop. I would suggest the gift of time. Just you and her, or maybe mom too. A big girl's day out will create a bond and memories for years to come. Have fun with it.
I recently heard a great idea. The mom bought those dish washing tubs at Walmart $1.83/per. She hot glued gro-grain (sp?) ribbon around it and wrote each girl's name in paint pen. Then filled it w/ pedicure stuff from the dollar store. She got some of the moms to do pedi's and makeup/hair. Then she laid some plastic or material down the living room floor for a fashion show. They took pictures and the dad went and had them developed at a one-hr place for the girls to take home w/ their tubs. Pretty cheap event. Oh, I think she got balloons to line the 'runway' for fun. Each person could bring a $5 book or gift to donate to a local children's center. So she would have things to open.
How about either a savings bond or start her a savings account if she does not have one!
What about a zoo membership? I got that one year from a friend of mine, for my son, and it was the best gift ever. You just don't think about how much money it saves you until you are going.
Hi J., We have a jillion toys too so I can totally understand. I really believe that giving a gift that they can experience and remember years down the road is the best gift. Try things like mani, pedi with mom, or those pottery places that they can make thier own pottery. Try and think of something that she can do that will make a memory. She is old enough where you could get her a simple camera or scrapbook and some supplies to go with it. She will love this if she is artsy at all. Keeps them engaged in something that will help them grow and develop as a young lady.

I have some cool scrapbooking stuff on my website www.connectedhearts.myctmh.com so check it out!
A gift card to a movie theater.
A pretty dress
Some Junie B Jones books
a gift card to Pump It Up or something like that, miniature golf -- something active
a beta fish in a fish bowl so she can have a pet to take care of
a little scrapbook kit (use your Michael's coupon) so she can make a scrapbook of pics of her and her friends
You can check out this web site for cool ideas. Just puchase a gift card and then the little girl can choose what she wants to do with the amount that is on the card. the web site is www.clublibbylu.com. This store is located in several malls. They have a package that will make her over with make-up, fingernail painting and lip gloss. they will also give her a cute hair style with out cutting or washing her hair. Hop this comes in handy and the web site is something to see.
Hope that this will be helpful!

I have a neice who is turning 8 and last year I got her a journal....something really girlly and pretty that she can write anything in. I wrote her a little message on the first page and made sure she understood that was hers, she could write anything she wanted in there. She love it and still writes in it.
On a side note...I have recently signed up with Ignite. It is slow and coming but have any suggestions?
J.,
My daughter just turned 7 this fall and we got the sweetest gift from a neighbor. It was a "friendship certificate". She put a picture of her daughter and my daughter together and her daughter decorated the certificate. The certificate entitled her to lunch and a movie. I loved it because it focused on friendship and spending time together.
Other good ideas -- a scrapbook (there are some great kid-friendly ones at Target.); Illustory - you draw your own pictures and send them in and they send you back a book that you created. A jewelry box is a great gift for a7 yr. old who is girly. They love this stuff!
Good luck.
How about a gift certificate to Young Chefs Academy? Giving her a certificate for cooking classes gives her something fun to do that is also educational. This is a gift that can last a lifetime, as she will learn life skills and put her on the road to learning the joy of cooking. Check out the website at www.youngchefsacademy.com/austin.
libby lou is awesome for girls of any age. i want to go in there!!! that would probably be an awesome gift for your little princess.

I gave the Highlights Magazine Subscription to my 7 year old grandson and he loved it. It has hidden pictures search and finds, lots of age appropriate stories and activities that they'll especially enjoy. Check it out!
Does she have a lap-desk. I got one for my daughter on her 7th birthday. It was from Learning Express and they put her name on it. It was perfect and she loves it.
I feel the same way! I have two doctors ages 5 and 9 and they do not need anymore toys either. When I buy a birthday present I always assume the parent does not want a whole lit of toys so I have started giving duffle bags with their name monogrammed on it. The parents always tell us it was such a great gift and something Reid child can use. The other little girls at the party always go crazy over them too! We have a really neat store where I live that has different color duffle bags with ribbon seen on the handles. They match one of the colors in the ribbon to do the name in. These really are great gifts and run about $25.00
Webkinz are great and are the latest craze for kids. Yes - it is a stuffed animal; however, so much more! If the child has access to a computer - it's a wonderful gift. She registers her pet on-line and it can print a birth certificate. She names the pet. She shops for the pet, clothes it, feeds it, takes it to school (all the in virtual webkinz world). My kids love them. There are so many different ones to choose from. go to www.webkinz.com to read more.
I have given movie certificate.$15.00 they can see a movie and have money for refreshments.
Gift Card to Libby Lu. They will treat her like a princess.
I dont have girls (two boys) but my co-worker who has a 7 year old says her daughter loves Libby Lou, maybe a gift certificate there, I hear that the girls love it!!

How about a savings bond from a bank, or maybe a savings account. It is never too early to teach children about saving money for the future.
I've been buying jewelry boxes from www.chasingtreasure.com . The children's boxes are so unique and have little hideaway compartments all over the place. Every one I have bought has been a hit!
How about a special day with her. Take her to get her hair and make-up done at the mall. Take her out for lunch or just do something she wants to do. She wouldn't have anything to "open" as far as gifts, but she would have a special day to remember.
If you are close to the family and would like to spend time with the little girl, you could make a certificate that says something like, "good for one trip to the zoo". Then you plan a day to take her (and your kids too) out for a day of fun. That keeps the birthday fun going a little longer too.
The rainy season of the year is coming and everyone is going to be stuck inside at times. For my granddaughter's recent birthday, I went to the local dollar store and bought a bunch of craft type stuff and a basket to keep it in. (Some tissue paper and a bow complete the wrapping process also.) I got the type of non-toxic clay that air drys, a package of washable markers, a couple of coloring books, a sketch pad, a bead set, a couple of those velvet posters that they color, a paint by number and I can't remember what else. You could also check for kits at your local craft place. This type of gift gives them something to do during bad weather, gives mom some down time and they can put it up in their room. Who knows? You may come up with something that fans a hidden spark and a new Martha Stewart could be born! It has also been proven that children that have hobbies are much less likely to get into trouble roaming the streets later.
