Unexpected Twins Any Good Car Suggestions

I just found out yesterday that we are expecting twins. We are still in the shock phase but excited. I got a new Honda civic after my first child was born but this is not going to cut it with three young ones. I never saw myself as a mini-van driver but I do know they are good family cars. I was hoping there was something else out there that wasn't a mini-van that can have three car seats and room for a stroller(s). Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

How exciting! Congratulations!
I have a Honda Pilot and LOVE it. I have 3 kids, and they can all fit in the backseat. Plus, there is a 3rd row too, which folds down and can fit a nice big stroller. Also, I ended up getting into it cheaper than the smaller cars, and my old mini van (that i hated!) Good luck! (also, the honda dealer i got it from was in waukesha, and my salesman waas great!)

The Ford Freestyle or the Ford Edge should give you the room you need. The Freestyle is kinda like a wagon but nicer. I have drove one and LOVED how smooth and car like it handled for a bigger vehicle. The Edge is a larger vehicle that looks a lot like a car and gets good gas mileage.
I personally LOVE my Ford Explorer. It has TONS of room and handles smooth and easy like a car does. The only problems I have is gas mileage and when the wind blows you can feel the resistance. But other then that I love Love LOVE my Explorer.

Good luck! We just traded in our Honda Accord because we felt it wasn't very safe for our young 20-month-old. We went with the Saturn Outlook mostly because of the all-around airbags and the on-star option. Our cell phones have a way of cutting in and out and we wanted, if need be, to be able to call for help at any time. Plus if you airbags deploy, they will call you and make sure you're allright. The airbags completely surround the inside of the vehicle, which made us feel very safe for our son. I thought we were going to do the mini-van thing as well, and my husband said a definite no to that one. We are just not mini-van people. Just an option and we really love it. We also opted for the CD in it just to entertain him. He doesn't pay any attention to it right now, but I know within a year or so, he'll love that device, and so will we!

Congratulations on the babies!

Congratulations! How exciting!
I definitely suggest the Honda Odyssey too! I don't have one yet, but that will be our next car. I have always been an SUV gal and LOVE my Honda Passport, but as that grows older, we're looking ahead to the future. We have 2 friends with Odysseys and they love them. I also have a friend who likes her Toyota Sienna and she's got 3 kids and has plenty of room

Congrats! I'm the mom of twin 2 1/2 year olds. I currently drive a Blazer and hate it. I would go with a van. It's tough toting 2 babies around in car seats, so a van would be ideal, being able to open both sides, allowing your older child to walk to the backseat..........also, when they get a bit older and are able to crawl in and out themselves, the height of a mini van is good for them. You also will have ample room to move around to buckle everyone in.

Good luck! If you need anything, you can email me. Twin pregnancy and after is quite different than anything you've experienced!

Congrats on the babies! I am sure that this is a crazy time for you. Just a few words of car shopping advise. Take your car seats with you and make sure they fit, I know this sounds crazy but my daughters car seat would not install properly in severa vehicals, also strollers, make sure they fit it in the cargo space, especailly if you need that optional third seat, Also think of the getting a sleeping child out of the vehicle easily. My husband had me look at 7 different types and makes of cars, before I convinced him to break down and buy the mini van. I thought I was deffinatly more of a station wagon kind of girl, but I would not trade my van for nothing. I have a 4 , 2 and soon to arrive #3, and it makes my life so much easier. I wish you the best of luck finding the perfect vehicle for your growing family.

I know you said not a min-van, believe me that is exactly what I didn't want either, but then I actually took one out for a drive and now I have two. Let me tell you that having a mini van is awesome and it saves in other people's doors and the room it has is awesome! I can fit the kids (I own and run a daycare out of my house) and then all their items of choice, plus it has a DVD player in it for the longer rides with just my kids. I have two kids and the space and the not climbing over seats or worrying about doors inthe winds, really alife saver. Plus you never have to worry about what is flying out the windows or if it is too breezy, you control that all up front. Plus if you get one with remote doors that saves you on unlocking and trying to juggle kids while you get the keys out and try to find the door lock, and in winter time that can be a huge hassle. Those are just a few of the reasons that I now own two. I wouldn't trade my mini-vans for any car, I like the no worrying that I have withthe doors and windows and such. If you still don't think a minivanis for you, then the best car that I have found with even remotely nice enough room is a taurus wagon. A minivan is also great if you are a smaller person, you can get all the way to the back without having to reach over seats and grunting. If you are taller, they are just the right heighth for getting kids in and out. you don't have to worry about ramming your head into the roof or slamming hte back of your head on the way out. My husband is 6'4" and he loves the minivans.
Hope this helps

Congrats on the twins. My sister had twins, when she had them she also had a son who was about 2 1/2 when they were born. She got a mini-van, but once they were out of the baby car seats and stuff she got a Dodge Truck that is a crew cab.
The Honda Odessey's are real nice and dont really have that "minivan" feel. Otherwise you are going to need like a Nissan Arvada, or Pathfinder that have the 3rd row.. Good Luck.

You have to get a van, ideally one with doors which open automatically. I have twins and a 3rd child, and can't imagine doing it any other way. Good luck, twins are great!

Congrats! We have a Saturn VUE and it fits three infant car seats across the back (no, I don't have triplets, just lots of friends with babies, lol). It's a manual and a 4 cyl. so it gets great mileage, about 28+ mpg. There's also plenty of space in back for all the extra gear. I hope you find something you like to drive! And good luck with 3 little ones, YIKES! ~A.

Congrats on the twins!

What's wrong with mini-vans? They have just as many features as other vehicles, plus dual sliding doors, storage in the floor, removable seats, lots of room for strollers/pack and plays, etc. In my experience, my mini-van gets better gas mileage than my in-laws two SUVs.

I have three, also, and have my son and older daughter in the back, and my youngest in the middle seat, so I can easily hop from the front seat to sit beside her on long car trips. (ie feeding her, reading to the kids, helping eat lunches, playing games, etc). I went from being a "sports-car" mom to the mini van, and I"ll never go back. I hope you're able to find something you like. :)

Hey J....congrats on your twins!!! I'm currently pregnant with twins too...and currently in the same boat as far as needing a bigger car for all those car seats :) I think I have caved and will be getting a mini-van...told my husband though that is has to be loaded!! Ha ha. Everyone I have spoken too said you will want the mini van for the storage space for the big double stroller and all the stuff that we'll be lugging around ;) Good luck!!

When are you due? We should definitely chat about this twin thing...it is good to know someone else in the same boat!!

Hi,
I currently drive a Honda Pilot (SUV). We only have one car seat in it but there is plenty of room for more. There is an optional third row for seating or storage. We have had one for 3.5 years and absolutely love it.
Hope this helps.
