My last day at my job is going to be Thursday, they've informed me that I will be laid off. I need to file for unemployment, but it is confusing because I live in MO and worked the last 10ish months in MO, but before that always worked in KS. I file for unemployment in Missouri, correct? I'm just not sure how all of this works, the last two times I was laid off I was lucky enough to find a job within a week or a month and didn't need to use unemployment.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I ended up applying through Kansas since I had worked there longer than Missouri and that turned out to be the right thing to do. Thanks for the help, ladies!

When my husband filed for unemployment - it was all electronic and he filed for the state we LIVED in. It will ask you through the site who your employer was/is - state, etc.

I hope you find a job quickly!!

Good luck!!

You file against the employers who paid into your unemployment. That can be multiple employers. I believe you file in Missouri because you live here but list the employer in KS.

Check your state's website. When my mom was laid off, she lived and worked virtually in Arkansas, but the company she worked for was in Alabama. She had to file through Alabama. I don't remember which state required it, but it was a hassle since she had to do everything over the phone.

You file in MO since you live there. Were you with the same company in KS too? I only ask because if you work less than a year with a company, you may not qualify for unemployment benefits. I'm in Florida and that's what the deal is here (I know because it happened to me), but it may be different for MO, just file. Sorry you're losing your job.

I believe they calculate compensation rates from the last 6 quarters of employment earnings. File where you live, they'll do the rest.

When a store I worked at closed they said file unemployment the day after you are "laid off". You will file in MO and they will ask if there are other states. Online you can file Missouri Labor Unemployment. Phone number 1-###-###-#### or 1-800-320-2519.
