I am curious... to those who use the reverse osmosis systems.. I was going to install one in my home last year and the research I read said for every gallon of water, 3 gallons are wasted...sometimes even more. Is this incorrect, or have they improved the systems since last year? I do agree it is the best tasting water as far as filters go, but if it wastes that much, is it worth if you are doing it for environmental reasons? Again, if I am incorrect in my research, please let me know.
Thanks

Hi
There are many places you can go buy you own installation kit that has the "reverse osmosis" system (usually a tank and 3+ filters).
If you buy from Costco and Home Depot (to name a few) you'd still need to install it yourself.
If you buy it from a water store, they'd install it for you, however that might be more costly, and out of your budget.
They are not too hard to install, if you already have an extra hole in your sink (next to the regular faucet), if not it might be a little tough to get that hole for the small faucet looking professional without the correct tools.
There are also places that rent these to you on a monthly basis, and the rental fee usually includes services, and new filters now and then. One of those rental vendors are Culligans (they usually do water softners!)but if you google water filtration in your area, you might find some other ones.
(I used to rent a system for about 30 dollars a month)
Hope this helps.

We bought reverse osmosis at Costco 3 years ago. It is Do It Yourself project. The water is fresh, no smell, we love it! You have to change the filter every six months.

reverse osmosis is definitely the only way to go. Purest water available. We use a company called Ecowater but you can go anywhere - just make sure it's reverse osmosis - not 'conditioned water' or 'softened water' which is fine - just not as pure as RO.

Best,
