Typical Daycare Pricing

Hi there,
I am a new mother and am quite shocked at the prices of daycare. I currently work part time and currently pay $205/week for a facility ran daycare. I really like the daycare but wonder if I am paying too much or if this is relatively typical, especially for an infant. Any thoughts?

What can I do next?

Unfortunately, when my son was an infant (about a year ago), the average weekly price I found was about $230...it's ridiculous huh! Almost not worth working, it took half my salary, so I quit! I was lucky that was a option for me. Good luck, it's so hard to put a baby in day care huh :(

For PT daycare I find that price high. I found that a lot of facilites were only accepting infants FT (so you may be paying a FT rate?!) It seemed that average for a daycare facility when i was looking last year was about 200 for an infant FULLTIME. When you went to PT it went to 50-60 a day?! Quite a dramatic jump. I went to a home daycare growing up, so I looked at some of them. I luckily found a few for FT @160 a week. I love my in home daycare facility, and I would recommend anyone to look at them! Good luck.

Hi K.,

I am licensed for in home childcare in Westminster (136th & Huron) and i charge a weekly fee of $185 for infants.

In my opionion, what your paying for childcare does seem high, considering that, at best, you may have 2 adults for every 10-15 babies cared for each day. And that doesn't mean that 2 adults are with the children at all times. This is a fact that is so scary for working moms. Check out in home chiildcare providers. We have more training and background checks than people who work in centers with children all day.

Good Luck!
M.

Hi.

This is actually a good price if you like the daycare. I currently pay 222.00 per week for a 3 year old that is potty trained. I know at my daycare for a 3 month old it runs 315.00 per week.

I have search childcare centers and find that if you feel comfortable with a center or an in-home that is what is important. I know several centers that have intensive training and backround checks for their caregivers and have lower ratios than state requires. Centers are typically better for older children, but I found a center I felt comfortable for my infant. Also, typically in-home are cheaper BUT cheaper does not always mean quality. Believe me I checked out several in-home and centers and both have pro's and cons.
So I've rambled. I say bottom line if you feel comfortable with the center stick with it. Feeling that your child is in good hands is priceless....

This will make you feel a little better. I have been trying to find part time day care and am being quoted $195-210 per week in the Centennial/Lone Tree/east Littleton area. They only discount the rate $10-20 from the full time rate. It's a total ripoff. I'm now looking into hiring a part time nanny. For about the same monthly cost, my son could have a 1 to 1 caretaker-infant ratio versus 5 to 1.

The price that you are paying seems pretty typical to me. When I used daycare it was about $40-$50 per day and that was about a year ago. Like some of the other moms, it wasn't worth it for me to work so I just decided to stay home. I now run a little eBay business and make more than I would have going to work and paying daycare!!
