I'm moving to an apartment complex that has limited options. Only Internet available is AT&T and they only offer thier slowest service. 750k. $19 a month and 100 deposit so Netflix is out. Only tv available is dish network. Surely there is something I'm missing? I don't want to be forced into slow internet and dish tv.Is there an option i am overlooking? Like, Should I trade my desktop for a tablet with a 4g service plan? But then what about TV? What would you do?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

The complex isnt requiring it. Those are just the only companies that have service available there so far. Another company may come in at some point.

We are cheapskates and have the lowest/slowest service AT&T offers (can't beat the 19 bucks). We regularly watch Netflix (and Youtube and other assorted internet activities) (laptop and tablet both) with zero problems. We can count on one hand the number of times it has been slow to load/play a Netflix show. Good luck.

I don't like satellite and hope to never have to rely on it. When there are storms in the area you can forget using the internet or the weather channel/tv at all to follow the storms. I have been out at the farm when using most brands of satellite and each and every one of them go off line during a storm. The signals just cannot get through.

I seriously can't imagine a complex being legally allowed to make you stay with one company or the other if you are living there.

Did you call the cable company yourself? What did they say about not being allowed to access this customer base?

Cable isn't an option at my house, nor is DSL (which I loved before we moved). We tried satellite Internet about 7 years ago and it was horrible. So our best, and pretty much only, option is to have satellite tv and mifi. Tv is through DirecTV and the mifi is a personal wifi that runs over AT&T's cellular network. Luckily, we get 4g in my area. The worst thing about it is the data plan has a limit, so I've never tried Netflix but I was able to watch Hulu on my phone with it.

We have DISH and love it. We have a pretty large package and just pay $51 a month...two languages! We do not have netflix, but DISH offers Blockbuster at Home. Works the same way. We have Clearwire for internet service. Call them up and find out if there is a signal at your complex. It was super easy to sign up, the box came the next day, we plugged it into the computer and off we go. We didn't pay anything down, just $32 a month.
Good Luck

Well we have Dish network, and it is GREAT.
We have no problems with it.
But it depends, on which package, your apartment complex has.
Because then, it will determine how many channels you get. Or which channels.

I would check with my wireless provider to see if there is a HOTSPOT I can use instead of being stuck with slow service. I don't know who your internet provider is - but Verizon's hotspot is good. My parents use it in their travels in their motor home.

We have DirecTV - yeah - it can suck when bad weather hits - but overall?? LOVE IT!!!

I don't have a tablet so I can't advise on that one.

Lots of people living in more rural areas often use WildBlue or HughesNet - two satellite services for both TV and internet. The internet is typically slow.
